Report Card for 2022..is looking...

Post: # 1974547Post shanegrambeau »

...bad.

Surprised?

Our fixture in 2022 was crappy, but was kinder than 2021.

Injuries were kinder.

We had another year to 'settle in' to the game plan.

Our players had more experience.

We have a few flecks of gold in the dusty qaurtz...Windy, NWM, Owens..

We have a lot of fodder in the paddock.

And our stars, semi-stars, would be stars, and milky bar kids have been obscured by Stratocumulus stratiformis.

Melbourne and Richmond cried for decades, and then hit pay dirt.

Can we?

Of course we can,

I will go to the footy for the first time in 5v years next week,

Dead rubber,

I might be the only person there.

Good luck Saints.

Keep going Saints...do ya thing..

About where I expected us
8-12

We are not any better than that - not the cattle

Who were Brisbane missing tonight?

We were without
Gresham, Ryder, Coffield, Billings, Hannebery, Battle, McKenzie, Hayes

Gresham, - injury prone, talented but limited
Ryder, - gold, but on and off
Coffield, - promised so much, faded...ditto Paton
Billings, - see above
Hannebery, - complete dud
Battle, - a battler.
McKenzie, - same, one half good season
Hayes - one good game.

Or conversely

Gresham has been BOG in AFL games

Ditto
Ryder
Billings
Hannebery

To EVER be BOG in an AFL game - suggests you can play!

Battle, McKenzie, Hayes are important role players

Agree Ryder and Hannebery are past their consistent best

But just two weeks ago Hannebery was in the best players in a win and Ryder has been in the best multiple times this season

Report card before the bye: A-
After the bye: F

Season in total: D-

I think we're seeing history repeat with Richo/Ratten's re-signing. There was no need to do it and now we're stuck with a coach who doesn't seem up to it but has a contract for two more seasons. The killer being that the greatest coach of our generation was up for grabs.

Disappointing year, but not an unproductive one.

Can't remember the last time we unearthed 3 genuine young guns.

Windhager has been joined by Owens as starting 22 locks, and NWM is a preseason and 3 -5 kilo of muscle away from being a lock also

2022 has seen them get games and they have started to look more comfortable..Owens could be anything...he was even playing and winning in the ruck

Also, It has taken a while, but Long looks like he belongs now. His aggression is now matched by his one touch gathers and clean disposal.

Everyone played well today, except for Kings finishing....he at least had 5 shots and should have had 4.1 and we would have had a win.

Wilkie and Sinclair should both be in the AA squad, Wilkie just wins contests, Sinclair a freak of nature.

Crouch and Ross moving into top form.

Higgins will get better as our entries improve, his attacking instincts are very good.

Battle has settled at CHB and was missed today.

Wood has discovered what happens when you get elite fitness...he is a find, a rare case of us turning a career around.

So, as gutted as I was today, there is plenty to get from the year.

We need a good FA and trade period,.

Next year we get Coffield, Hayes and Billings back as new recruits

Players who've stagnated or gone backwards:

Billings, Butler, Byrnes, Bytel, Clark, Connolly, Gresham, Hill, Howard, Jones, Joyce, King, Paton, Ryder, Webster -- even Marshall and Steele.

Unacceptable.

Do you think we use Paddy in the right way? At his age I would like to see him deep in the forward line much longer and push Max higher up the ground.

Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

We have 3 players to build a team around

King (forget last night , will be a star)
Owens (our very own C Curnow/ Koufax)

Windhager (our very own M Voss)

Exciting

Lienhert stiff not to have gotten a few more games. Makes the odd mistake but clearly has footy smarts, brings maturity, an imposing presence, good team player, massive kick, provides stuff that we miss when he doesn't play.

Not "Simon Templar". He was here first. Please change my username to Bumstead and if possible make me one of those very large sandwiches, thanks!

None of the 14 sports journalists at the Age had us finishing higher than 11th.

In that sense, despite huge disappointments and excruciating missed opportunities, we've exceeded expectations.

11 wins with a limited playing list isn’t so bad, particularly with 2 out of 3 ordinary assistants!
2 decades of sub standard drafting is the big issue.

All those journos would have said we had a very disappointing 2021 season..

And so now we are here...and they say OK?

I think it means we have really lowered the bar expectations wise.

Totally agree Templar, but just a reminder, he has changed his name, via predictive text, to Lieberman. Otherwise spot on.

That is one thing the Saints are good at, getting it wrong at the player draft, consistently.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Going to finish about where I thought at the start of the season but when we were 8 & 3 I thought we would play finals even with a pretty tough draw but it was all down hill from there & ended up another very disappointing season . Can't see us being a hell of a lot better in the next few years so nothing really to look forward to in the short term anyway IMO

Yep seasons a fail
Second half deplorable after 8-3
People excited by Windy Owens Nasaih etc ….we were not long ago lauding Clarke Coffield and Billings as saving us..
Point is - 3 kids development alone won’t save us
We need to go backwards to go forward
Unfortunately coaching group won’t even entertain external help to help Kings goal kicking ….that screams arrogance to me when they zero reason for it
I get the feel there is a disconnect between where the coaching group think the side is at vs reality
Concerning

Absolutely spot on - we are an 8-12 team .

Perhaps if our 3 youngsters can go up another level next year, and King can fix his mental demons, we can finish a little higher.
But I doubt it - our development skill are non existent , and according to Champion Data, we have made the most Clanger kicks of any team this year. Our skills are deplorable.

Who writes the report card. When is parents/teacher night.
NAPLAN comparators nothing special. Could improve with new teachers and as younger students mature . Need to look at study plans and class allocation

Maybe more a case of realistic expectations.

I thought they were all wrong as I was sure we'd just make it into finals.

And they were wrong. Their expectations were too low.

Mine were a little too high. And let's face it, we're still not quite good enough.

A pass mark was playing finals .
So it's a big fail .
