What's to say. Its awful, unfortunately. Wheels have fallen off. What you see is what you get.

As St Pav noted: its now about getting games into promising youngsters and doing well at the draft.

Our list is tres ordinaire save for Max King, Steele, Wilkie, Battle, Seb and Sinclair (and when fit Marshall and Paddy). Rest are one or more of: too small, too slow, lacking skills, timid; new (potentially) talented guys inexperienced but bright lights. Judgement and selective work ethic of some of the older players appalling and the good sides we will play have their numbers.

Ratts has done wonders with them to win so many games so far but the team seems to have come to a collective realisation they peaked a while ago and its going to be a long hard winter. Paddy, Max and Sincs can't carry them any more unless they all get back to doing their roles and stop freelancing.

It's not that bad. We have most of the pieces. What worries me most is the Ruck. Once Ryder retires, we'll be in a bit of a bind. Marshall hasn't been the same since his foot injury.

NWM, Windhager, and Owens will all be good players but we need them to develop quickly.

One of the most common held misconceptions in the AFL is that Paddy Ryder is good center bounce ruckman. Statistically one of the worse at the centre bounce in the AFL....net hit out to advantage during CBA's and net hit outs leading to score he ranks worse in AFL of rucks averaging over 6 CBA's attended per game. Also ranks poorly against other rucks in virtually every ruck stat except avg. hitouts per game (which is a completely useless stat, given base hitouts do not have a strong correlation to scoring/clearance). We are a bottom 3 center clearance midfield in the league when he attends center bounces.

Most importantly, I think he's ruck work has failed the eye test this season (bar a few examples of excellence... see tap in fwd50 vs geelong). He also coughs up the ball more to opposition midfielders at contest than any other ruckman I have seen.

I know this is likely a hugely unpopular opinion on this forum, but I think a lot of the misconceptions around paddy lie in the media opinions around him being an elite pure tap ruckman which may have been the case in the past but is definitely no longer. I think our midfield group benefits greatly from shifting him more permanently forward, where he can still have his big contestant marking and around the ground impacts or ultimately his retirement altogether.

Very generous to the coach. Mehtinks superior fitness won us some games in the first half of the season, as evidenced by the way we often started poorly but nevertheless overran teams after half-time. Now that fitness levels have evened up we've been exposed. What really rankles me is the way the team often looks insufficiently motivated, especially in marquee games.

He thought he would get out while the going was good. He will return to a club predictably in 'another crisis' and spiralling out of finals contention. D'eja' vu at Moorabbin really!

I hope we don't recruit DeGoey. His juvenile behaviour is just so unacceptable to our supporters.

I would like a juvenile flag... he may not be the one to help us get it but he is certainly better than many who are trying to get it.

Well, what if the midfielders are not well organized, switched on, lack talent?
Not Paddy’s fault.
He consistently gets his fingers to the ball and controls the drop …that has to be worth something.

I agree however, what point is a centre tap if it turns into a raffle/rubble once it it falls to disadvantage.

Very true could also be a midfield personnel issue

If he gets promoted, he might only get 5 touches, but he will draw a tall defender.
Gives Max more chances.
