Odds of resting Marshall or Ryder this week?

Post: # 1956513Post shanegrambeau »

Would have thought Marshall is carrying an injury? Maybe Ryder?
I know it’s a bye the week later, but still.
Two week break vs one with a hard fixture coming up.

What do you think?

Don't mess with form. If injured they don't play if not they play.
What message will it send playing North - who pushed Melbourne ?
This is a team that dropped a game to Port and struggled for 3/4rs against Adelaide.

Full throttle and hopefully boost percentage

It’s a must win game. And percentage may decide the top 4.

Going into the bye in the top 4 if we win and Melbourne remain undefeated is really important imo.

All that said if Ryder needs a rest get Max Heath in.

Agree…don’t flirt with form and the Marshall/ Ryder combo is a weapon.
They have both hit the scoreboard recently which is a bonus!

I would give Ryder a rest this week and play Campbell. Apparently Campbell's form in the VFL has been very good. Marshall can play permanent forward pocket this week. We have to work smarter not harder!!!

St Kilda should never trade with Essendon and Sydney ever again!!!

Marshall looked fine and has almost 8 days to recover. Didn’t look injured to me.

There’s a week off after this game so the rucks can rest then.

This type of weak and soft attitude won’t get us top 4, let alone a flag. If they can get on the park, they play.

It's not a weak and soft attitude as you put it. It's working smarter not harder. You need to be strategic throughout the whole season. The mentality of playing your best team every single week is ignorant to say the least!!! The season is a marathon not a sprint!!!

I would also consider resting Howard as well. Joyce can come in for a week. Very underrated player IMHFO.

We've not won the hit outs or clearances vs North in our last three matches against them.

Sure, I hear you, but you are not suggesting that players don’t play unless they are fully fit, are you?
Plenty play injured, with niggles, with jabs, straps etc.,

I hope they both play.

Lost 4 of our last 5 against North.

North also have one of the best ruck combos in the AFL.

The roos believe they can beat us too.

Agree. Pick our best side and hopefully bury them. Percentage could become very important by the end of the season and we have a tough run home.

Plus the stat about them having beaten us four out of the last five times we’ve met is a worry. We’re a better team now and they are worse, but that doesn’t guarantee anything

Definition of injured here is not available to play or could cause greater damage if do play.

Ryder also had a AFL enforced break not long ago

Spot on. We're actually not good enough to be flirting with form. Winning is a habit - I'd like for us to keep building on that habit

If either Marshall or Ryder are carrying injuries, or need a rest this would be a great opportunity for Heath to have a taste.

Terrible idea.
In 2021 and 2022 we are 0 from 2 when only Paddy plays, and one of those losses was by over a hundred points.

Our recent record against North Melbourne is absolutely pitiful - right up there with our shocking records against Geelong and the Crows. Only three wins from the previous thirteen matches against them! If we start mucking around with dropping players to manage them we are setting ourselves up for an embarrasment and risk unravelling the season.

Don't do it.
