Bad kicking is bad football.

Post: # 1956404Post saynta »

Old saying but still true today.

Crow lice coach reckons that his side should have won.

Interesting comment seeing that the saints won three of the four quarters.

Nicks making excuses for his own failure as a coach.
He had a quality player, publicly humiliated the player by releasing a video of the incident with Nicks bagging the player.
In the video he invited the player to leave.
And the player did.

Nicks only got a second round compensation pick for that player.
St Kilda got that player for free (restricted fee agent).
That player was a key reason why St Kilda won.

Nicks got nicks.
Crouch got a club that values him.

The reality is if they kick straight they probably do win - but like our Port game we kicked 18 behinds, you dont win games kicking like that.

We got the Port game back.

Even if 4 of those shots were gOals instead of p0ints Matthew Dicks still loses by a pOint.

What are ya gonna do?! 🤷🏼

They conceded 8 goals in a quarter. Could have been worse.

Their defender who went to King was hopelessly undersized and too short.

They didn't implement correct negating tactics on Max. This is Max's 3rd season so they have plenty of video to trawl through.

They didn't kick straight.
That's 3 reasons there

Usually we lose games because of bad kicking, nice to win one for a change.

A Port game in 2017 when Acres had a chance to put us in front.
Geelong last year when Snags got 1.6 (or was that the Swans game?)
Lots more.
I won't mention the one where the cleverest small fwd in history, misjudged the bounce of the ball.

He’s full of shizen and making excuses. Come to think of it…. I reckon the second quarter was crucial to us winning the game. Although we lost it on the scoreboard, we softened them up and played some tough unrelenting football.

No one can predict outcomes. Whenever a goal is scored, you get a centre bounce and it’s a reset.

We clearly had the advantage in the ruck so perhaps we would have had more chances for quick kicks out of centre clearance and more situations like the last five minutes.

Our fitness shone through. No point leading for 1900 metres in the Cox Plate if you can’t get the business done in the last 100m. We didn’t win by a nose…we were a length and half clear at the post!

We played some unsociable football in the third, Jimmy Webster’s hit on Lachie Murphy for instance.

Let's not kid ourselves, Saturday night was one of our worst performances of the year. Many of our players were well off their best form, although some (eg, Sinclair) improved as the match went on.

We came good in the last quarter but we were extremely lucky not to be a lot further behind. We were undermanned in the middle: Sinclair is not the answer there. We were largely ineffective at keeping the ball inside our forward 50: we desperately need Butler back, although I am told (I didn't have time to watch the game) that he looked out somewhat of form on Sunday.

The high free kick count against us didn't help. Unlike others, I thought most of the high tackle ones were there: it's a very fine line between a player leading with his head (which is not a free kick) and bending as low as he can to avoid being tackled. Adelaide have clearly practiced this tactic a great deal. I think it's rather futile, in that they'd be better off trying to clear the ball from congested areas rather than take it into tackles all the time: not all umpires are going to blow the whistle for them as often as occurred on Saturday night.

Their problem is that they are slower at moving the ball around that most other teams, which is something they will need to address if they want to improve.

Anyway, I saw it as one of those bad performances which still result in a win. We don't manage enough of those, so it was great!

Yeah yeah woulda, coulda, shoulda. Worst argument for a loss ever. At end of the day (night) they bloody didnt!!

We've been on the other side of those matches plenty over the years. Nice to be on the right side of the ledger for a change.
