Ladder of Wins Part Deux

Post: # 1956268Post Sainter_Dad »

With thanks to Kosifantutti for the inspiration:
kosifantutti wrote: Sat 30 Apr 2022 5:21pm Simple concept for a form ladder. You get one point for every win that a team you have beaten has. This works backward and forward in time. It doesn’t matter if your opponent won a game before or after you beat them, you get a point.
[At Round 6....] So we beat Freo 5, Richmond 2, Hawthorn 3, Gol Coast 2, GWS 1
I have amended the concept to include the number of wins of the opposition / their current % / own %

So - beating a team that has 4 wins but 120% is better than 4 wins and 80% and of course if you have 8 wins and 150% you are better placed than 8 wins and 115%

Updated at the end of Round 10:
-TeamActual Ladder PositionLadder of Wins
1Melbourne160.98
2St Kilda442.69
3Carlton238.22
4Brisbane Lions535.96
5Geelong Cats331.57
6Fremantle631.02
7Gold Coast Suns1124.23
8Richmond1522.82
9Hawthorn1221.84

15GWS Giants105.77
16Essendon164.48
17West Coast Eagles182.64
18North Melbourne170.28
Does this make sense to anyone??

Adelaide have beaten:
Port Adelaide - 4 wins @ 103% = 4.12 points
Richmond - 6 wins @ 120.4% = 7.224 points
Western Bulldogs - 5 wins @ 110.70% = 5.535 points
Total points - 16.879 @ 80.20% (Adelaide's %)

Ladder of Wins points - 13.54

We have beaten:
Fremantle (7 wins @ 139.4%) = 9.758
Richmond (6 wins @ 120.4%) = 7.224
Hawthorn (3 wins @ 91%) = 2.73
Gold Coast Suns (4 wins @ 93.6%) = 3.744
GWS Giants (3 wins @ 86.6%) = 2.598
Geelong Cats (6 wins @ 124.80%) = 7.488
Adelaide Crows (3 wins @ 80.2%) = 2.406

Total points - 35.849 @ 118.10% (Our %)

Ladder of Wins points - 42.45 (now 43.60 points)

This of course has now changed because Hawthorn just became a better win as they beat Brisbane.
Hawthorn (4 wins @ 92.60%) = 3.704

Yes. I love it too. Its fun and pertinent to a comp which is clearly dominated by one team and evening out across the next 8 or 9 clubs. What's more, we should be 2nd right now IMHO, only poor goal kicking has let us down.
We are hard to beat and have beaten ourselves twice.

Please don't write "Geelong Cats". Geelong will do.

Damn this American crap.

But I love the idea...and if you could incorporate injuries into the concept, it would be even better.

Don't ask me how, That's your specialty. But I'd say you'd have to credit teams where players are due to return rather than teams with players out for the season.

Cos you might have a team win three tough games on teh trot, and suffer three season ending injuries - their position would be inflated.

BUt anyway, as is its a beaut!

Geelong Cats is how the AFL refer to them - and it is where I source the data - I will try and see how long the amendment takes to remove it.

Nothing like the stubbornness of a St Kilda supporter when it comes to Rose Coloured Glasses - lol
