Picks 48, 54, 58, 59, 76

Picks 48, 54, 58, 59, 76
Thats where St Kilda's draft picks lie going into day 2 of the draft.
Worth at the moment 302, 220, 170, 158 points respectively.

As an indication of their value picks 48 & 54 combined could match a bid at pick 27 for an NGA.
then picks 58 & 59 would be advanced to picks 57 & 58 worth 182 & 170 points respectively
Combined they could match a bid at pick 34 for an NGA.
I am not sure if the remainder from the first matching which becomes pick 73 is enough to add cover to pick 33.

Here's hoping for the best.

Now that I am old and know so much more, I know that I know so much about so little, and so little about so much.

TBH I will still be very surprised to see either bid on before the 30's.

I read your comments on the draft thread regarding Bigoa Nguyen and perhaps Richmond owe us. They are reportedly the most likely to bid on Owens, I wonder if the Saints could put in a phone call and suggest they overlook the early bid in lieu of the Saints not taking Nguyen late? All is fair in love & war!!

The other consideration is there is some chance our picks could still improve. There are three father sons still on board (Woewodin, Archer and Burgoyne) and numerous NGA + Northern Academy nominations GWS - Fahey, Green, Voss, Driscoll GCS - Baird, Bella, Pescud etc Sydney also have a couple of likely academy players and if bid on they will all consume picks.

That's an excellent point regarding the northern academy players

Sydney try to steal Owens but Saints have the points to get both him and Windhager.
At 33 he costs 563 less 197 discount = 366
Saints use pick 48 & 54
So pick 48 becomes pick 33
Pick 54 comes out causing picks 58 & 59 to advance 1 place = 57, 58
And pick 54 slips to pick 59
So have 57, 58, 59, 76
Worth 182, 170, 158 points

Pick 59 not needed to get Windhager at 34 need to trade one of those 50's picks into 2022.
If Windhager slips past 40.
All 3 need to be bundled for a good pick in 2022.

Well done Ace.

500 points is equivalent to pick # 36 so it may be worth a late 2nd rounder?

Windhager for free.
Pick 76 is good enough to match.
Get rid of pick 57, 58 & 59 in return for a pick in 2022.

Otherwise Windhager will cost pick 57 wasting 182 points.

What the f
Pick 42 matched by 2 picks.
The AFL website says after pick 40 only requires next available pick.
Ignore everything I have said previously regarding picks after 40.

Saints just traded with Melbourne for pick 51, cost a round 4 2022 pick

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Oscar Adams from SA, 197 cm 85kg Key Defender

A raw developing tall, Adams has the strength to overpower players at junior level, but is still ironing out his consistency. He has some nice athleticism which helps set him apart from many other key defenders who can roll through the ruck, and an extra few centimetres at 198cm. Whilst he could lift his production and consistency, he has a great attack on the ball, and can impact defensively aerially or ground level.

51. Oscar Adams

Glenelg, SANFL / Compton FC-Mount Gambier

State: South Australia

Height: 197cm

Weight: 85kg

Date of Birth: 23/07/03

Durable tall defender who reads to play very well to intercept mark and is both competitive and aggressive. Needs to add further strength to his frame but is capable of a turn in the ruck, like Mark Blicavs, using his athleticism and versatility to his advantage. Showed distinct potential as key defender in NAB AFL U19 Challenge matches playing all four of South Australia’s matches, impressing against Western Australia with four marks and 16 disposals in game one and finished the series being his state’s best player in the final game against the same opposition with six marks and 12 disposals. Played under-18s with Glenelg this year and continues to improve, averaging 13.7 disposals and 4.8 marks in his 12 matches. Comes from a very sporting family with both parents having played state level basketball.

We have traded pick 51 IN for round 4 2022 OUT.
That despite still having picks 58, 59, 76.
Oscar Adams 197cm key defender from Glenelg.

no one wanted them..when left over after academy

yes we did trade for 51......but needed the earlier pick

the other academy players can be placed on other lists

if used tonight would need to be on contract for 2 years on bigger contract

All those later picks were protecting our 2022 picks.

Once clubs knew we had them, they didn't bother activating them.
So they look like a waste but they're not.
Interesting move to trade up for Adams, must have heard a whisper, or wanted to be absolutely sure we got him

Only 64 players selected in the main draft.

Now to pre-select Josiah Kyle & Jack Peris as rookie "B"s ahead of the rookie draft.

The problem with drafts is you are only drafting potential and who know how good we have done tonight. but in saying that we have drafted an outside mid who is the best kick in the draft, 2 NGA players that are better than what hey cost us and a potential tall defender who at this point I would settle for serviceable. So all in all not a bad draft. I think Freo probably won but we did OK
