Who is going to win the Brownlow.

Post: # 1927028Post saynta »

I have a sneaky suspicion it very well may be someone whose first name is Jack.

"JACK STEELE
St Kilda’s most consistent performer this season and a chance to poll strongly again. Assuming the co-captaincy didn’t impact Steele’s output – in fact, he thrived on the added responsibility. The prolific midfielder and dual All-Australian regularly racked up big disposal numbers, worked tirelessly without the ball and hit the scoreboard when needed. While the Saints had a disappointing year, Steele further elevated his game, delivering outstanding performances in wins and losses. St Kilda’s reigning best and fairest winner finished equal-third in last year’s count with 20 votes, polling in nine of 17 games. He is a real chance to be in the mix late in the count again.

JACK SINCLAIR
Sporting an extravagant mullet, Sinclair flourished in a new role across half-back in a career-best season.

BRAD CROUCH & LUKE DUNSTAN
The midfield pair put some prolific performances together in the second half of the season.

Bont and Petracca will be hard to beat. They do have other quality mids who will take votes from them but I'd still guess one of them gets it.

Their output was slightly higher than the guys we picked before them this year...

Petracca and Oliver will take votes off each other. No one at Moorabbin will do that to Jack.

The Bont is a chance. A real chance. Tipping that the Bont and Jack will be a one two. The order yet to be decided.

Jack needs to sneak a few votes in the early rounds to win it. His back half of the years was better than anyone else's. Hopefully he polls in our early wins against GWS and Hawthorn, but I'm not sure he will.

It will be interesting to see who polls for us. I’ve got a feeling a few players who didn’t feature in the B&F top 10 will finish a lot higher than some that did.

Also Bont to win, the Dees players will take too many votes off each other.

Not hard to do that for players who played exceptional games but not many. i e; Highmore, Paddy, Marshall, Dunstan, Billings and Sharman.

From sen.com.au

"Jack Steele

Why he can: Steele has had a massive 2021 season that saw him claim back-to-back All-Australian blazers. The midfielder is a proven vote-getter, finishing with 20 votes last year when equal third with Christian Petracca.

The Saints only won 10 games in 2021, but Steele is a genuine chance of polling three votes in just about every win they had. Unlike Bontempelli with Jack Macrae, Ollie Wines with Travis Boak and Clayton Oliver with Christian Petracca, Steele does not have other teammates that can steal votes off him given St Kilda’s poor year.

How couldn’t the umpires be drawn to Steele? He’s courageous, inspiring, tough as nails and is no doubt a genuine chance to knock off the top two in the market, Wines and Oliver.

Why he can’t: Playing in a side that finishes outside of the eight has its setbacks on Brownlow night.

Given the Saints had a disappointing season that saw them finish 10th, the former Giant might just finish a few votes short given the likes of Marcus Bontempelli, Ollie Wines and Clayton Oliver all played in teams that won 15 or more games for the year."

Mid from a top 4 side (Dogs are a top 4 side).

Medal needs to be renamed Umpires Medal for Non-tagged Midfielders.

Good award but not best player in comp award anymore. Most touches = Best?; arguable.

Every now and then, there are players who have the capacity to force themselves on the fate of the game - to change the tide. Ian Stewart was one such player and not surprisingly won three Brownlows. In more recent times, Dustin Martin has shown the same capacity - he didn't win three Brownlows but did win three Norm Smith Medals - which perhaps players value even more. A player who powers his team to a flag is, "Rare gold - the best kind of gold!"

Will it be Marcus Bontempelli, Jack Macrae, Bailey Smith, Clayton Oliver, Christian Petracca, Max Gawn or someone else who powers his team to this year's flag. We know it won't be Ollie Wines or Jack Steele.

Jack can't win it simply because we didn't have enough wins and we know that others took the three votes in some of those wins i.e. Rounds 1, 7, 19 and 21. That leaves 6 games for a maximum of 18 votes. Not enough when up against teams with 50+% more wins.

From the games I've seen, which is most of them, being only on TV, Clayton Oliver has been the most outstanding player this year. But he is in a team of stars. Marcus Bontempelli has also starred, but with fewer other stars to take votes in the H&A games. Port Adelaide won as many games as Melbourne and Ollie Wines stood out in most. Port are a team of unlikeable players, who seem to think that brute strength is a substitute for skill. They found otherwise last week and Wines wasn't able to have any impact on the result, although I thought he dislocated his shoulder in the first quarter. But a Port player will win 3 votes in most of their 17 wins.

So, I think it comes down to the Bont or Ollie. I'll go with Ollie, but only through gritted teeth. He was BOG in the two wins against us.

The Bont first. Clary Oliver second.

J….

Steele gets on the podium again with a top 3 finish. But would be fantastic if he does win

Both the Bont & Jack Macrae were in my Supercoach team so I watched both of them closely, Macrae scored heavily in most games and I wouldn't be surprised if he polled more votes that Bontempelli.

Last year Steele got 60.5 in the Saintsational award. This year he got 83.5.

Last year he got 20 votes in the Brownlow. This year he should get 27.6 Brownlow votes.

Dunstan tipped to be Saints second ranking player, after Jack of course, with 8 votes. Saints.com.au tipping him yo only get 6 votes though.

Sorry if this has been asked already, but does anyone have a stream to watch? Incredibly it's not on 7Plus, Kayo, Foxtel or the AFL app so relying on someone setting up a stream
