Was rumoured earlier in the week…

Anyone have an impression of him as a coach?

One of the best one on one defenders I've seen. Can he coach I doubt any of us can pass judgement on that.

Great and recent credentials. He should be a big asset to the Saints.

Was he pushed by Geelong, or did the Saints chase him?

I assume that he lives in the Geelong area, so a very big family move, as he will no doubt need to move to the city.

Impeccable CV written in gold foil. A big plus for the Club and, thankfully, not the former Cat there was speculation about.

Obviously a hard taskmaster judging by the names he has saddled his kids with.

A great get by club! Enright (Boris) is the perfect fit for our young/inexperienced defensive group. Hopefully he can take the players under his tuition to another level. Particularly Coffield I feel he has two levels in him to improve and start dominating opposition forwards.

I also hope he can convince Ratten that Battle is a true CHB and not a wingman.

Read an extract from Matthew Scarlett's book as he discusses that incident with Robert Harvey

Scarlo v Harvey

IN the below extract from Matthew Scarlett's upcoming autobiography Hold The Line, the former Geelong champ gives his account of the day he and St Kilda legend Robert Harvey crossed paths.

Jimmy Bartel owned the first quarter of the qualifying final against St Kilda.

The reigning Brownlow Medallist had 12 possessions in the term, and it was only wasteful kicking that meant our lead was three goals.

As we got together at the break, word got around about some mouthing off by St Kilda veteran Robert Harvey. Sledging was a part of the game, and I was very much a player who'd used it throughout my career to try to get an advantage over an opponent.

Harvey had tried to get in Jimmy's head about his estranged father.

After Jimmy had won the Brownlow the previous year, the Herald Sun had run a story with his father, whom he'd had nothing to do with for years. It had shaken Jimmy up, and such a private family matter shouldn't have been made public.

Harvey had just put a target on his head.

When play resumed, I went out of my way to get in his face.

"You're just a selfish old c..t," I kept telling him. "You're never going to win a flag. Your career has been a total waste."

Harvey bit straight away, and I knew he didn't like it, but I was relentless.

I'd always enjoyed sledging.

As a young player, I found it got me involved in the game, got me fired up, and I thought I played my best footy when I was doing it, so I kept it as a tactic.

You soon figured out who it worked against and who it didn't. I used to do it more, but Brendan McCartney pulled me back a bit and said I didn't want to be remembered just for that."

Mind you that just that prick's version and I don't believe him.

Scarlett one of the worst snipers in the AFL. I would love to hear Harv’s side of the story.

Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

Scarlett kept going even when they’d already won the match. That’s why Banger was upset. You don’t disrespect a champion.

Doesn’t matter what is said (within limits) during the game but if Scarlett calls it being ‘relentless’ with his sledging even when that final siren went, he’ll always be a an obnoxious and arrogant prick afaic

Scarlett has the face of a serial killer. A surly and unlikeable character. He was a great footballer, but that's all you can say about him. Harvey, however, was and still is universally respected and liked by all in the AFL.
