I think we may have taken the wrong Wingman from Freo in 2019!!!

At twice the cost (and then some!)

Langdon is a running machine

Younger & hungrier for success so I doubt he would want to come to us hence we get Hill & Hannebery because we are so desperate just to get someone

I think Langdon was happy just to move clubs. If we offered him half what we offered Hill he’d have signed on

At the time of the trades (Hill and Langdon)
Melbourne were disappointing

Have it on good authority the dees were into Langdon for the majority of the year before he was traded, wasn’t going anywhere else.

Do we need a thread on every player who leaves a club and then plays well saying we should have recruited them?

We probably don't but when you make so many bad decisions you can see why it keeps happening

Good Authority … ok

But, you do see the relevance

We took a Freo Wingman and gave up 1st rounder/2nd rounder and Acres
Pay about 900k for 4 years

He has been largely disappointing

Melbourne took a Freo Wingman for basically a second rounder
Probably on about 400k

I know these threads suck arse, but they are the sad facts!!!

This definitely a hindsight thread

At the time I would have wanted Hill, but probably not at what we paid!

But it is what it is
Hill hasn’t been very good
Langdon finished 4th in Melbourne’s B&F and was near BOG in a prelim

They take of two clubs?!

Yes it is what it is. Langdon was not interested in St Kilda and was never going to be a Saints.

Now with Petracca it is a different situation as the club had it within its control to select him. And we should have as he was the better player. That was a mistake.

But stating that we should have taken every player that did not want to join us, is as productive as myself fancying the hottest girl at my secondary school. Yes she was hot, yes I wanted her, BUT she did not want me. Made for some great daydreams, but as for reality.....

So yes, it is what it is.

It’s just a comparison of how the two trades have panned out

Hill for shitloads - not great

Langdon for not much - great

But it’s not a comparison of the two trades when you say:

“ I think Langdon was happy just to move clubs. If we offered him half what we offered Hill he’d have signed on”

That’s simply not the case.

Which prelim was Langdon nearly BOG in?

Langdon is horrendous with ball in hand although yes he’s a running machine. Interesting to see how he’d go with a tagger assigned to him weekly.

20:20 hindsight is easy to have.

Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

Langdon was outstanding last night!!! Gawn, CP and him dominated

Yes it is clearly hindsight.

I did think Langdon was a smart pick up by the Dees - good value

At the time I though Hill was a huge get (even though we sold the farm to get him!)

Turns out - Langdon > Hill

As an ex McKinnon High School student I am very proud of Max. What a great performance from a great Captain.

Did Langdon clean up Battle when we played them or someone else? Remember him having a field day but couldn't work out who was on him, if anyone.

Langdon 8 kicks in a 82 point win he was ok. Hill gets 21 and we roast him.

Sorry guys, Langdon falls far short of Hill in ability, skills and footy IQ. Hill is the better footballer.

Not sorry we signed him.

I don't agree with any assessment that rates Langdon higher.

Are you saying Hill in 2020 and 2021 has been better than Langdon?

Yes. Expectations far higher on Hill. Also gets a run with player most weeks.

Langdon finished 4th I’m Melbourne’s B&F last season

Hill was rightfully criticised for poor output

Back end of this season better, when shifted to an easier role

But for a 900k player, he’s been ordinary.

So your asking a different question then. Also what’s a easier position getting tagged as a half back rather than tagged off a wing.

Why do certain people keep saying we sold the farm to get hill
We didn’t.

Just because you say it over and over agin doesn’t mean it is right

No. I said Hill was a better footballer.

I have watched all of Hills games in 2020 and 2031.

Melbourne's games as a rule are not much of interest to me and in the ones I have watched Langdon didn't stand out.

Curly is right.
