What will Saints do with their first pick 2021 draft

"NDICATIVE DRAFT PICKS: 9, 46, 64, 82, 100

WHAT DID THEY DO IN THE FIRST AND SECOND ROUNDS OF THE DRAFT LAST YEAR?

The Saints had only one pick inside the top-40 last year after they did a pick swap with Richmond as part of the deal to get Jack Higgins to the club.

They selected 195cm key forward Matthew Allison at pick 26.

Their second-round pick was traded out a year earlier as part of the deal to get Brad Hill to the club.

WHO’S IN THE MIX THIS YEAR?

Adding some more midfield class looks like being on the agenda for the Saints and there should be plenty of options available when their first pick rolls around.

Locally, Sandrigham Dragons duo Josh Sinn and Campbell Chesser will both be in the mix around that mark.

Sinn is a classy outside player who was co-captain of the Dragons this season, while Chesser was vice-captain and is another predominantly outside midfielder with a good mix of speed and endurance as well as silky skills.

Eastern Ranges midfielder Tyler Sonsie is another player who could come into calculations and is a player who can win the contest but also has polish on the outside.

Another option could be West Australian Neil Erasmus, who is an exciting 188cm midfielder who can also go forward and finish off his work.

The Saints also have a couple of Next Generation Academy members who could be considered later in the order in Sandringham Dragons duo Mitch Owens and Marcus Windhager.

Windhager has a basketball background and has had a strong season after coming off an ACL injury in 2019, while Owens is a 190cm wingman or half-forward who significantly stepped up his game this year.

Jack Peris is another NGA member and is the son of former Australian hockey star and Olympic Gold Medal winner Nova Peris.

A speedy half-back or wingman, Peris hails from the Northern Territory and comes from an athletics background."

Totally fluff it!

Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

Yep, but just make sure it’s an outside mid with speed and good foot skills

At the very least the club will pick a player who is vaccinated.

there is mac Andrew a 200cm athletic running forward/Ruck/Defender he is tipped to go 7-12 range and would be a good prospect for a KPB but he is very light will take some work but has good skills.
Lets be smart and get what we need so Willkie will not have to play on a player 8 cm taller we have plenty of Mids.

I agree that Wilkie bats above his average too much and I’d like him to be a 3

But I don’t think the coaches agree

From what I saw this season, the coaches trusted Wilkie to take KPFs and they were probably right.

A couple of times Wilkie even took #1 when Howard wasn’t getting it done

They view Highmore as a 3

Pretty sobering that we find ourselves with just one pick inside the top forty.

I'm pleased that we picked up Higgins last year but in so doing we traded away the pick that Melbourne used to nab Bowey.

I say go to the draft and select the best available player, regardless of size, unless there's a possibility to swap for Bing.

I have seen mac Andrew and he has skills but he will be three years away. He is 70 kg dripping wet and if he was to be a ruck he will need some muscles on his frame and that will take time. We should get best available (preferably not a HBF) although there is not a lot of difference between a few of them and various lists have players in places 10+ higher or lower than other lists.

Josh Sinn is a defender at 186 cm so a HBF that may play in the midfield and has some speed which we need but needs to improve his tank.
Campbell Chesser is also 186 cm but seems to be more a midfielder who can float back rather than a HBF who floats forward. He is quick with 10kgs on Sinn
Tyler Sonsie high footy IQ, strength at the contest, great flair and class on the outside – is one they might find hard to ignore is fox sports rate him but not in the top 30 for ESPN. Sooooo who to believe
Josh Goater sounds like another Battle in that the kid has got skills but he has no set position yet
Leek Alleer 196cm, 84kg key defender could be a bolter but he is an Adelaide boy. An intercepting machine but but that's all he does and he is a couple of years older than others
Josh Gibcus best key defender on paper 195 cm, 84 kgs. If he is available get him but unlikely to get passed suns picks
Neil Erasmus midfielder has a go home factor about him which sux as he seems good on paper and will be around our pick range

we have lots to consider and plenty of option but knowing my luck the club will trade this pick for two lesser ones and my research will have been for naught

Not bad . Pretty good actually. Speedy, quick hands, good footy brain. If we take him at our first pick, payback for those dee pricks taking Bowey.

Problem is in the last bit "light and will take some work". Window is opening now, can we afford to wait 2-3 years for a return? We also have a terrible record of developing young key defenders - Claravino, Austin, Goddard.
Pass and take a silky outside mid and trade in the future for Key back. Also guessing what the game will look like in the future with a speculative pick

No. Clear no 1 pick but went no2 due to some very stupid people at the Dees.

One of the following midfielders would be great - Campbell Chesser, Josh Ward or Arlo Draper. I believe Chesser fits our midfield needs perfectly (quick, good runner and a great kick) and we havent had a dashing red head for years, since Brett Voss & Matty Young.

Chesser has slipped in some phantom drafts because he missed some footy and then didnt perform well in the trial game, but I believe he has the most room for improvement and the tools to be an elite midfielder. He was rated top 5 earlier in the year, plus he is another Sandringham Dragons lad.
