When Peter Gordon returned as Bulldogs president the first thing he did was sign Tom Boyd, a number 1 draft pick, on a ridiculously long and hugely expensive contract. The Hill deal is small change by comparison.

When Boyd walked away from the game it would be easy to write the deal off as a costly failure. If it weren't for his match winning performance in the 2016 GF, of course!

Josh Schaeche is another number 1 draft pick. Brisbane filed away his career in a folder marked "McCartin", the Dogs picked him up for beer money. He continued to struggle but from what I saw tonight he may have taken over Boyd's mantle for the 2021 Grand Final. What do you reckon? A huge nod to Bevo who I now believe is the best in the business through his uncanny ability to keep his team tuned in despite whatever adversity they face.

Demon supporters, quite rightly, grinned like Cheshire cats for about 22 hours. They would have more solemn looks now. It's going to be a great game in two weeks time.

Hannan?

Melbourne 5

Western Bulldogs 6 usually 8 with Bruce and Keath

Realistically we have Howard Hill Steele Jones Butler Membrey Ryder Higgins.

Plus Hannebury Crouch Wood Carlisle (gone) McKernan (gone) Kent (should be gone)
I didn’t mention Melksham Mitch Brown Tomlinson either.

Amazing how the teams with the least injury concerns made the GF.

If Bailey Smith were to suddenly crack the sads and want out of the dog pound I would throw the kitchen sink in to sign him. Absolutely freakish running ability, ball use and confidence.

With the added bonus that he could teach Jack Sinclair how to grow a proper mullet!

Only 20, what a future he has.

And why would he leave?

You could say that about 50 players in the comp - most are well looked after and happy where they are.

Could of had him Trev but we got Max King instead & as much as I love what Baily Smith is doing & he is a gun I'm still pretty happy with Max ATM

He wouldn't. It must be past your bedtime because you don't understand "what ifs".

Like clockwork!

Couldn’t blame the umpires tonight (that conspiracy fell apart quick) so have to go to next on the list :)

Still shaking my head at how lopsided both those matches were. Hopefully the Grand Final is a far more even contest.

Best 2 sides made it
Scary but possibly best 2 mids too....
Dogs still have Darcy and Jamar to come in yet...
We not only NEED Bing ... we need Clarke Coffield Byrnes etc to really step up plus we have to draft a gun mod and nail it this draft - not a project player or HBF who might one day be a mid....but a genuine mid
Hanners goes next year Paddy Geary (should’ve been this year) and pray we’ve front loaded Hill contract etc and we just might have some coin to get Bing (same rate as bro) and a FA mid of use....

To be fair it's only taken the Dogs six years of finals to be on the wrong side of the umpire's count. Not exactly quick.

O K, the press and probably Geelong are now saying, if not claiming, that up to 6 of their players were ill on Saturday.

Well, okay, but what was wrong with the other 17 players.

Weak as piss excuse even if true.

+1 Chris Scott's presser was pathetic along the lines of I don't want to make excuses because that would be disrespectful to Melbourne but I will elaborate at a different time when my head is in a better space pretty much saying we had an excuse & I will tell you why later very contradictory IMO but typical for him, big f---ing sook

"However, several younger players who battled to cement a spot in the team are expected to explore their options during the upcoming trade period.

Key defender Nathan Kreuger, who attracted interest from Collingwood last year, has had multiple clubs enquire about him, but the 22-year-old was waiting for the Cats’ season to finish before deciding where his future lay.

Kreuger, pick 42 in the 2018 draft, played two games in defence this season having shown some versatility in the VFL".

Think you’ll find I’m correct. Best injury run all season Melbourne have had an extremely good run. Great sides need luck.

Just my own observation but I reckon the Cats will still be using this lame excuse in twelve months time. A very good team full of aging stars. Their recruiting strategy of topping up with over 30's failed them. While this is stating the bleeding obvious the Cat-compliant media won't pose the tough questions to Scott and company.

The Cats sustained a fantastic run of being flag contenders for the past 15 seasons. They won 3 premierships in the first 5 seasons but have been running on hope of another one for the next 10. That hope vapourised on Friday night. The end of an era for Geelong, signalled by the retirement of the great Brian Cook.

Thing is can u you out include Membrey Steele and Higgins in there when discussing players as being recycled.

That’s a great find kosi.

I had to google their draft positions to refresh the grey matter. We got Nicholas (Nick) Winmar at 32 and Dees picked Gawn at 34.
