SAINTS rank #1!!
St Kilda are ranked number one for the cost of injury on starting players missing games.
Injuries with cost – any injury to a player who, based on the AFL Player Ratings, would have been selected in their team if fit.
Whilst that isn't the sole problem, surely it must be significant, correct? After reading this I'm willing to adjust my rant titled, " Burn Ratts at the Stake".
We are 4th in the league for scoreboard impact ( points scored) by missing players!
It does highlight a lack of depth....but you cant keep fit, B grade players in the wings to cover possible injuries. Those guys leave for better opportunities OR get slotted into the gap which is often an " out of position" move causing more disruption to game plans.

Pretty obvious stat
We’ve been decimated
Question
How many injuries are the top 4 teams dealing with atm?!

A hypothetical: would Seb have played in the Cairns game if we were a top 4 side and the real deal?

I actually don't think he would have. Would he have played the game if it was a final? I think he would have.

Was it ok for Ryder to take 4 weeks off, but not ok for Seb to go home and help with newborn twins

Injuries account for losing. What's the metric for no effort. Most professionals I know have pride in their craft - there are several AFL clubs at the moment where most players just go through the motions: Suns, Carlton, Saints. Great company we are in. What's that from the club? Pardon? You guys need to show effort and organisation Friday night; it will be cold, wet, miserable, an away game, big ground no where to hide and the Tigers will be going all out to hurt. What now? Ring in sick or needed at home? Or give a red hot go regardless.

Re: SAINTS rank #1!!
You take the good with the bad. We knew we were getting damaged goods when we recruited Paddy. He was terrific last year and still a valuable player, but I’m pretty sure the club knew of the risks with his history (the mental toll from the Essendope saga) and with his age.
As far as Seb is concerned, I’ve been a critic, but that doesn’t mean he’s not a valuable player. That doesn’t mean he’s not first 22. I don’t think Seb would’ve taken time off if we were 7 wins and 5 losses instead sitting at 5-7 before the Crows match.

In a way it was a final. Times have changed in so many ways.Ghost Like wrote: ↑Tue 22 Jun 2021 10:25pmI actually don't think he would have. Would he have played the game if it was a final? I think he would have.
It would be fascinating to hear the views of Nicky Winmar and Stewart Loewe on this matter.

Was referring to the personal issues both experienced before the 97 GF.skeptic wrote: ↑Wed 23 Jun 2021 9:06amWhat did they say?Vortex wrote: ↑Wed 23 Jun 2021 8:14amIn a way it was a final. As I say times/attitudes and social norms have changed so much since then and probably not the best example.

Re: SAINTS rank #1!!
Good point Vortex and I think we might find the club would not want either taking the field following those circumstances as the side was certainly two very good players down.Vortex wrote: ↑Wed 23 Jun 2021 10:02amWas referring to the personal issues both experienced before the 97 GF.skeptic wrote: ↑Wed 23 Jun 2021 9:06amWhat did they say?Vortex wrote: ↑Wed 23 Jun 2021 8:14amIn a way it was a final. It truly is a hypothetical whether the club or Seb would see the situations as being the same.

Re: SAINTS rank #1!!
Unlikely. Although - credit where credit is due - I think he's been much better this year. Certainly playing more directly and with urgency (except for a couple games). I've always thought that whilst Ross/Geary and McKenzie's kicking were still on the list - we are deluding ourselves.
Go you red, black & white warriors

Re: SAINTS rank #1!!
Maybe Sebs wife wouldn’t expect him to miss a final or GF
But a H&A game
She probably felt she could ask for that sacrifice
And it was a (footy)?sacrifice he was willing to take.

Re: SAINTS rank #1!!
So what if you miss the finals by one game, it's not as though you can gamble with 4 points at the elite level. Who's sacrifice is it in this scenario?
