Carlton under attack ...but it sounds familiar..
Blues being questioned on 2 fronts:
1. Recruiting HBF abs trying to turn them into a midfielder eg Williams (who couldn’t run with Taranto) ...a crime we have a failed history of also doing ....Lesson this draft : MUST recruit genuine bloody mids ...not any other type a MID
2. Players recruited to Carlton are not being developed and infact going backwards......sounds familiar ??
Learn this lesson fast Saints I do not like being associated with Carlton....

We have slipped to their level
They’ve made and paid too much for Saad and Williams (I thought at the time this was a blunder..)
The development one.....really big worry....if young players start to believe you don’t develop at st kilda ....it becomes hard to turn around ...don’t want that smell hanging around

They also paid a squillion for McGovern and get almost nothing in return, ooh, that sounds familiar.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

They got sold on the surname. They hoped he'd be a lot like his bro at the WCE, but without the Billy Brownless diet

The Blues are getting ravaged. A cashed up Super Club.
Last year Essendon and Melbourne were being reamed.
So let us not get too downhearted. It happens to all clubs.

Thing that strikes me is that Carlton are losing by 18 /20 points a lot. The weekend, being a 36 point loss, was a blow out by their standards.
We got them covered…
36 points? Pathetic
We got 76,
We got 110!

Re: Carlton under attack ...but it sounds familiar..
We're just very, very lucky that we had a single excellent 2017 draft (Clark, Coffield and Paton + Higgins) where comparatively - the draft they had a good hand in (2017) they've had a complete bust in Dow and O'Brien and before/after that SPS, Stocker and Philip are also duds. Had they not nailed the 2015 draft and nabbed Wietering and McKay (+ Charlie Curnow who mightn't play again anyway) - they'd be in all sorts.
McGovern and Hannebery are similarly disastrous trades although, we only paid (net) pick 39; the blues paid 2 x 2nd rounders.
Whilst we've been forever drafting average half backs and trying to turn them into mids - at least we didn't trade high picks for them (Saad) nor, tie-up the best part of $2.5M per season on them (Williams, Saad & Martin)

Re: Carlton under attack ...but it sounds familiar..
Saad is giving Carlton a lot of value. Williams thought (and Carlton thought) that he could just waltz into the midfield and become a star. Both he and the club realise now that he's a back flanker and nothing more. They've made similar c**k-ups to us, for sure, and we're both getting a kicking from the media pundits at the moment. It's not as bad at it seems for both clubs. Similar problems but only two or three players short of a fix.

Re: Carlton under attack ...but it sounds familiar..
That's true about Saad. He's been good. But $800K good? Not sure about that. Personally, I'd rather be us (only in a football sense). Their mids are putrid (can barely get their hands on it except for Walsh) and they don't defend. They're still playing Curnow, Murphy (sometimes) and Betts. And those 3 aren't their worst players. Put Jones and Gresh back into our team and all of a sudden - we're not as horrible. Their ruck situation is terrible - we at least have Marshall. McKay is excellent but I think Max will get to that level in a couple of years. Their Captains are right on the edge - at least Steele is first picked.cwrcyn wrote: ↑Tue 22 Jun 2021 12:56pm Saad is giving Carlton a lot of value. Their young ruckman will be a player. He just needs a couple of years.

It reads like SOS wasn't as good a List Manager as he thought he was.
Maybe Carlton's CEO realised that and gave him the DCM.

You feel both sides are a few quality players short and both through the midfield I think ..,
Ironically they lack that class inside mid (we have in spaces) we lack a classy outside finisher (Walsh)..
IF we can jag a pure , decent genuine mid this draft ...it’ll go a long way to moving us forward

It's going to be very interesting at season's as to which clubs get sucked in by the lemons Carlton will put up for sale as they go about fixing their list.
I wonder which clubs would go for a lemon rinse, i know 1 club that might bite.
