The difficulty of our fixture

Post: # 1909320Post terry smith rules »

Regardless of other issues this year, hindsight will show that our draw has completely screwed us this year.

We are going to finish up with 13 games against 2021 finalists (obviously i am assuming no changes to 8 from here )

This compared to other teams

Saints 13
GWS 11
Geel 10
Bulldogs 10
Bris, carl, ESS, Melb, Rich 9
Port, West Coast Ess 8
Swans 7

Obviously you get a favourable draw (Swans) if you have missed finals

But bloody hell we have not been missed

Richmond on the other hand play 2 other finalists on the way home and have 6/9 at the MCG (COVID dependent)

This is what the club must be pushing against because we will always get screwed against the top clubs who can almost negotiate their fixture

While the AFL props up the club financially as much as it does we can give no more than lip service to "pushing back" against the AFL .

And how do you suppose the AFL knows who will be playing finals before the year starts?

Well they knew that we had 11 games against 2020 finalist v Richmond 10 games against 2020 finalists

So which ever way you want to look at it , we are up against it

So my point is we should be going to the AFL and show them stats like these and ask that it be taken into account

If the club wants to succeed they have to be able to beat whoever they are required to play, seems pretty simple to me.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Simplistic view and that of people who dish out compromised fixtures.

I don't agree, next you'll want to pick which umpires we get.

If you think the fixture doesn't have a massive baring on ladder position your kidding yourself.

That'd be bearing not baring.

I don't think 1 game more against a previous top 8 club over the whole season is that much to worry about.

A few years ago I think we had pretty much the softest draw (was it last year?).

Our problem this year was Sydney have come from nowhere to be top 8, as well as us sucking.

Fixture and injuries have had a massive impact, and the draw was rated the hardest before the season started
Key injuries early on have cruelled us.
Still doesn’t give us an excuse for being unfit though

We've played 13 games against 13 of the 17 other clubs, our season is kaput and we haven't yet played any team twice.

How is our season so far the fixtures fault, well, it isn't.
