Coaches message to Members

Post: # 1908579Post chook23 »

Ratts came across terrible.....

Almost clueless

Struggled to put 2 words together

Based on that how he ever got appointed anywhere assistant/main coach is staggering.......

People have claimed it has held harves back....

Harves would be a fantastic orator if compared.....

Took that into account.....

He came across as if he does not have the answers and he knows it...

Has also been unimpressive in other messages.

Ratten looks cooked, this coaching gig at St Kilda is clearly not going the way he planned it.

Can he turn it around before his contract is up for renewal.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

To me he looked angry
Like he wanted to be say what he really thought but had to hold himself back
Won’t be the first St Kilda has destroyed
What amazed was the club (who could easily re-record it wasn’t live...) let it go out ...,staggered

If he's angry he should express it as anger.
Let it rip and show them where the line in the sand is.

I actually liked his address. Basically he said we need to clean out the s*** players out of the club and replace them with guys who can play and do give a s***. Times are up for a couple of them and rightly so. Jack Lonie and Paul Hunter you're coming in loud and clear!
Battle needs a few weeks at Sandy.

I thought it was fine. Obviously frustrated by the fade-out and lack of effort in the last quarter but can't come out and say what he really thinks. If he did, other clubs would be straight on to it and would use it against us.

It’s not his fault we have this list.
It’s not his fault we have these injuries.

What about the positional set ups in that last quarter?

The bench rotations?

Could I do a better job? No.

So God f n help us.

And by the way, we lack onfield leadership. Sorry Jack Steele.

You know who played like a captain in that last quarter?

Brad Hill!

You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

The range of perceptions by different supporters are interesting, aren't they.

I thought it was the most genuine address I have seen by any coach or official.

He has given a number of players more chances than they deserve. Now he is angry they let him down so comprehensively and so weakly, gloves are off. I imagine Lethlean will give him licence.

The men that did not put in last night are finished at our club. Job seeker next year boys, and how you will regret not recognising chances when they were given.

Can't help it, just think Ratts is one of the best things that has happened to the club and really looking forward to the weeding and to next season. Understand why others disagree but I see a genuine guy, skilled and terribly let down by guys he put faith in and gave chances to.

As a really hard ball winner in a premiership side its taken him a while to appreciate so many on our list are rubbish in terms of commitment. Men clearly overpaid, cossetted and too foolish to know the good wicket they are on.

Recruiters, you are also on notice. Pick hardness as a non negotiable.

The bit with Ratten that concerns me...
He built a fast attacking game plan at Blues with heavy smalls reliance that looked good when scoring fast but leaked badly when sides got a run on ....
Sound familiar?????
I would hope he’s learnt some new tricks...
At least 1 good thing... the club haven’t done a Richo and re-signed him..
He’s got next year that’s it
Tough talk won’t cut it
Needs thorough club clean out - players, ass coaches, admin
Get it done

Words are cheap, he should’ve set the example earlier in the year and dropped the players who were out of form or weren’t towing the line.

I wasn't referring specifically to the team as a whole, more that he can't single out individuals, as opponents would use it in-game.

Richo kept playing Weller n Newnes until the end.
Ignored any other guys in the Zebs.
Then let both of them go.
Is this what will happen to
Long
Lonie (ok, Lonie got dropped)
Dunstan (as above)
And there's some others who have had chances.
Kent, DMack to name just 2

Yes. I checked my spam, it was there.

I agree for the most part

The big challenge is what happens next. A personal reflection that I posted at the end of 2017 RE Richo (at that point I was still optimistic about him) was we had improved massively but 4-5 problems areas became highly apparent.
My opinion was that to move forward, he needed to find a way to play 2 rucks (Bruce didn’t count), reduce the reliance on role players that just applied pressure, work on team psychologically so that when the ball bounced they were switched on... and there was a few others

Richo did none of those and we crashed and burned with those issues being amongst other glaring problems

Ratten is on a similar’ish place to a degree. His issues are that there is a lot of deadwood and lack of depth with this list... his approach to structure isn’t great... too many limited small forwards and player roles chopped and changed all over the place and a distinct problem with skills and lack of leadership

If he at least starts to address those issues, we’ll turn the nose up relatively quickly IMO

He was just totally pissed off. It's better that they lost. It means some hard decisions will be made on some players. No papering over the cracks. The Saints got f***ed over by the umpires in the last quarter and in reality shouldn't have lost. It's time to clean out some rotting carcasses.

I agree would rather not be pretending we pulled a win out of the fire after playing so bad for the second half ...there are issues that need fixing
To me it looked like all this had just woken him up - the list isn’t as good as 2020 lead many to believe and that we have to make some tough calls to go forward
I just hope he has the balls to make them ..
