Trade and Draft Currency
St Kilda has retained its' 2021 1st round, 3rd round and 4th round draft picks
The 2nd round draft pick was spent buying Jack Higgins.
2022 draft picks will be available for trade but only the 1st round or any combination of later rounds but not not both.

St Kilda presently has 35 players on the senior list as a result of Dylan Roberton's retirement
Callum Wilkie is on the rookie list "A", but as 2021 is his 3rd year as a rookie he must be promoted to the senior list to retain him.
Sam Alabakis is on the rookie list "B", but as 2021 is his 3rd year as a rookie he must be promoted to the senior list to retain him.
For 2021 clubs were allowed a maximum of 38 senior listed players, 6 rookie "A" players and 2 Rookie "B" players but limited to a total number of players to 44.
Who knows what player numbers the AFL will allow in 2022 or what salary cap restrictions will be.
Salary caps and player contracts have been reduced for 2021.

The AFL was debt free coming into covid but now has a large debt due to losses in 2020.
They put Marvel stadium up as collateral.
China is unlikely to compensate even if a game is played in Shanghai.
Instead the AFL is likely to want to limit dependent club expenditures to help recover the AFLs finances.
They are likely to limit all club expenditures for a few more years to ensure all clubs expenditures are equal.

Before we consider the end of season draft, St Kilda is likely to look at what's available when the Mid Season Draft opens on 2 June, with long term injuries by then also a big factor.

I wonder what high priced downhill skier Gags and Leftlean will trade for at the end of 2021.

Can't wait to see that.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

franklin could play a couple of games over the next two years and mentor king. surely? or we could offer a five year contract to jack - be good to have a reiwolt back at the club!

Hopefully we put a lot of work into the Mid Season Draft as at this stage we have picks 2. 12 17, 19!

We desperately need:
KPP'S
2 X Defenders - 1 tall backman, 1 x Geary type to bounce off Patton

2 x mids - 1x tall Bont type , 1 x mid bull to scrum and get that pill at all costs

2 x Ruck - 1 x to replace Paddy, 1 x to back up

1 x forward - proper #1 forward to mentor King, draw defenders and crash packs.

Seven clubs – Collingwood and Melbourne (two each), Essendon, North Melbourne, Port Adelaide, St Kilda and Sydney – have list spots available for the mid-season draft while other clubs will be able to send players with long-term injuries to the inactive list to open up further spots for the rookie selection meeting, which is scheduled for June 2.

Robbo retired, and presumably Paton and Geary being out for the year is why you have us with 4 slots.

However other clubs will have players out for the year too, and so our picks will get pushed back.

I doubt that we will have the second pick by draft time.

Is this the developing young ruckman we need? Hopefully someone we will consider at the mid season draft.

Does the club have to give Hunter, Wood & McKernan the standard 2 year draft contract or because they were SSP selections do they only get 12 months? Hopefully only the 12 months as all 3 have shown nothing at AFL level and should be delisted again at seasons end.

Once again the Saints attempts of quick fixes are an epic fail, when will they learn?

50. Sam Witherden (Geelong Falcons), KEY DEF, 1 game, 101 points

NOTE: NGA Beilby ranked at 39, has been in the best players every week. Plays as an attacking HBF who is good in the air. Is a definite keeper for the Saints as long as he makes it outside the Top 20 under the new NGA rules. How St Kilda is that we finally get a quality kid as an NGA prospect and another club can take him under 20 in the draft.

Finnis needs to get on the front foot and ask for an exemption for us and other clubs who have not yet had a top 20 NGA draft selection.

Just watched the Sandringham v Dandenong U18 game. Max Heath is a much better ruckman than Edward's. He has a good leap and uses his size well and is decent around the ground.

Edward's is the better marking option forward.

Jack Peris will be a player, he is lightning quick and tackles well above his weight.

Gus McLennan was solid in the back half.

Josiah Kyle kicked a nice goal and showed some glimpses of class, but is flashy.

Callaghan from Sandi stood out with his class and speed off half back. Looks a ready made player.

Josh Sinn is another highly touted pick with plenty of class, although he missed a few shots on goal.

Judson Clark is a ripping midfielder with speed to burn.

If we can pick up Heath & possibly Hipwell (midfielder) from Sandi in the mid season draft we would have done well with the local lads. I can really see Heath developing into a dominant ruckman when he grows into his big frame.

I would love to see the club also get back into the 2nd round of the draft and look to grab a player like Clark. He is exactly what we need in our midfield, with his ball use & speed. If it means losing someone like Ross it would be worth it in the long term.

Draft Central write up on Peris -

11 Jack Peris

This was far and away Peris’ best competitive outing in Sandringham colours, with the St Kilda NGA prospect showcasing his rare athletic traits and causing headaches with his forward movement from the wing. He notched 17 disposals and looked to take the game on with each, backing his speed to burn opponents and showing flashy agility to weave out of sticky situations. Peris is still quite light, so was caught on a few occasions, but was able to produce a game more indicative of his potential this time out. He capped his day with crafty goals in the first and final quarters.

He won the B&F in our poorer years.
The same player who goes missing everytime the heat is on and still cant hit a target going forward.
Would much rather off load him while he still has some value, take a step backwards for future growth.

Every year there are calls to delist. drop or trade Sebby from people who I believe have no f****** idea. This year appears to be heading the same way . I am f****** sick of it.

But, hey, you are entitled to your own opinion. I just thank the lord, the saints have a different view.

Yep he continues to prove those people wrong????? The guy is nearly 28 and its time to pull the trigger. Its about improving our list and if we can get a 2nd round pick for him it would be a no brainer.

I was picking my mate's brains. Purely as a supporter not an employee he suggests we are doing some heavy lifting to get a big name ruckman, defender, midfielder.
Not sure who, he was "speculating". But he said someone was in Qld who had agreed to discuss a move before signing a new contract.
That doesn't help and is about the largest pile of trade turd you'll step in today....but I'm desperate so I sat there lapping it up.

He was 100% correct we were grabbing Hunter, McKernan and Frawley. I hope he slips up and feeds me a name...is it illegal to spike a drink for ITK info?

After watching our VFL side today it really has me worried for the structure of our list going forward.

Out at seasons end should be Hunter, Dunstan, Kent, Joyce, Wood & McKernan plus question marks over Geary, McKenzie and Frawley.

We will have some significant holes in the list to fill. Say we take 3 at the mid season draft, we will need another 4 or 5 players at the National Draft. We have already lost our 2nd round pick and dont have any trade value coming through the VFL.

Basically our list has about 22 decent players and the remainder are not at AFL standard. Because of the lack of developing youth we are nothing short of list porpers.

Whereas you look at clubs like the Bulldogs and Tigers VFL teams and each would have a dozen players capable of playing AFL. Consequently giving them continued strong trading positions.

Why on earth we let Hind go last year for nothing, is another shocker in our long history of list blunders.

Drafting rejects from the Dal and Goddard compensation picks 12/13. Drafting Brad Howard (smokie no-one new whio he was) with pick 27 in a strong draft when they could have taken him much later.

Maybe its time we got a st.kilda VFL team seems to me the clubs doing well have there own teams it would allow us to have our systems all through our club and would also allow the VFL team to be all saints players not some Sandringham -saints team.

Talk about having an idea!!
How is your boy Dunstan going?
Did you love his game against Richmond?.
Back to Trevor Barker Oval for the “ Tractor”.

Seb Ross is on 700k and we have too many one paced mid fielders he is a decent player but for him to stay he has to take a pay cut....
We need to find that elite fast 2 way running mid fielders that has eluded us for years..
Where are we going to find it?
Treloar wanted to come we had no salary cap space ....
Now we must go to the draft to find him...
