If Savage ends up being selected, he'd better want to play out of his skin. By golly he seems to be fading into obscurity this year.

Are we one of the worst teams when it comes to debuting players?
Carlton have had 4 rising star nomination this year.
Maybe our depth is really not all that good!

Unfortunately it isn't. Bulldogs, Melbourne, Carlton, and Essendon have done far better these last four years.

comes down to poor selection and coaching. The staff seems to pigeon hole players into ineffective roles. then expect them to be a grade elites when they pick up the ball at a moments notice. i get you cant throw them in the deep end straight away but Ben Long was a prime example. never given a chance on a wing or a chance to run. He was forward pocket and rotated with the bench it was completely pointless and wasted his time. Sinclair copped the same treatment for the last 2 seasons. Mackenzie had the same problem against sydney, jack steele has had it all year.

Dunstan tonsilitis? Dropped;
Savage- not required as Webster is a much better defender;
Lonie- not required;

Steele has been managed and would be an effective tagger to help Koby.
Steele only gave away one free in the Crows game, but
Koby gave 6

If they drop Bruce and bring in McCartin I'll refuse to go to the game.

Because he's a hardened, experienced player and we are still trying to make the finals?

Just a guess...

If sprinting towards the fwd line and just booting it as far as you can to nobody in particular gets us into the finals then ok, I get the selection.

7,8,9,29 is my pick for the final bench. With the possibility of 8,29,32 and either 7 or 9
Savage wont play.

Steele is definitely playing VFL this week. Probably no changes I reckon, I just can't see a place for the other inclusions.

Is it possible that Savage might come in for Webster (who is perhaps still struggling with his hand) and Steele for Lonie? I'm just speculating, but who knows?

Very deflating, especially seeing as our rebuild is supposed to be two years ahead of Carlton's.

Until we have an administration that demands success and a playing group that bleeds for the guernsey, St. Kilda will just be a sh*tty football club.

I agree with you stonecold, Hickey's form this year doesn't warrant selection over Longer, but I wouldn't be making it a crusade.

Gee some of you guys are so quick to moan and complain about everything.

Who cares how many players we have debuted and how many have won rising star nominations? So far this year we have seen:

Ross approaching elite status
Billings not that far behind him
Webster stepping up a level
Sinclair make it as a first team player
Acres continuing to improve
Carlisle, Brown, Stevens and Steele come in and hit the ground running (and how many endless whinges did I read on here last year of "Carlisle will never make it now, we wasted our pick on him, oh woe is me!)
Longer potentially looking like an AFL ruckman
Bruce dropped and (admittedly only on the basis of one game) seeming to get the message and get with the program
McCartin showing a few glimmers
Geary stepping up as captain

We've also seen a few players showing something at VFL level: Marshall, Rice, Freeman and the two Irishmen.

Dunstan, Savage, Lonie, Minchington and Wright maybe aren't going to make it, but that's not certain (particularly with the first three). And Joey and Riewoldt clearly haven't got too much longer to go. Our forward line still isn't good enough, and, with Goddard constantly on the injury list, we're a bit short of talls down back.

It's not a premiership-winning lineup yet, but we'll be going into the next trade period with some good draft picks and a lot of money to splash around.

I can't help feeling optimistic. Sorry.

ST KILDA JUST NEED TO BITE THE BULLET'

GEELONG Falcons talent manager Michael Turner says St Kilda needs to "keep playing" key forward Paddy McCartin if it does not want to lose him to another club.

The No. 1 draft pick in 2014, McCartin has played just 22 of a possible 58 games since being drafted and has played five AFL and five VFL games this year.

McCartin, 21, was drafted from the Falcons and Turner said he had watched his progress since with a lot of interest.

“It’s alright playing a couple of VFL games but you draft No. 1 draft picks to play in the AFL and I’ve always got a theory that if you play guys too long in the VFL they become VFL players," Turner said.

“I think it’s like Tommy Hawkins and (Jonathon) Patton and all the big key forwards. We’re not making excuses for them but they do take time and in Paddy’s case he’s had to deal with diabetes, he’s had a broken collarbone, he’s had various injuries. And in certain times during games, and I watch them pretty closely, he’s certainly shown the attributes to play football in the AFL.
