We managed to keep Sicily down to 26 possessions and thus beat the Hawks who I noticed ended the season 16th on the ladder.

He didn't beat us, the second time around.

Anyway, I think our current coaches will do just fine ... we just need to get all the other areas right.

It's also the coaches that had been given up on, and were a breath away from being shown the door, that ended up holding the silverware. So, if the coaches that survived by the skin of their teeth can do it, any coach can. RL will do ... we just need to keep nailing the recruiting (this is the non-n...

On the other hand, if RL was that great a coach, Freo wouldn't have let him go, markp. They wouldn't have shut the door on him. As I said, our coaches deserve some credit, but not the Lyon's share of it. We got our recent recruiting right ... and our 18 year olds, NWM, Owens, Windy have had 2 years ...

I'm giving the coaches some credit - the right amount. I'm not going to go overboard by ignoring all else.

The relative success we've had this year has nothing to do with recruiting. We were all but silent during last trade/draft period. Credit has to be given to the new coaches. We're a much tougher team to play against this year, toughest we've been in over a decade. Which, not surprisingly, coincides...

We don't... but we spend too much time on worshipping mere mortals who have donned the title of coach.

The behind the scenes recruiters deserve most of the plaudits or condemnation.
They do most of the heavy lifting or sinking.

The coach adulators need to remember that RL had a dismal 30% w/l record last 4 years at Freo. What we need now (and have always needed) if we are to become a great team with sustained sucesss ... and not a flash in the pan ... are great recruiters. Full stop, end of story.
