Re: Will Keeler be the real deal??
I agree with BM. Lovett is the perfect example of player and attitude. All Lyon had to do was convince him to turn a new page, now that he'd come into a new environment ... but he couldn't. Alan Jackovich is probably another good example ... he could have been anything - even thought of alongside Lo...

Re: Will Keeler be the real deal??
I think it's all up to the individual and his work ethic. Nicky Winmar in his book mentioned his father as being his best coach (and Nicky played under many AFL coaches). His dad made him regularly (on a daily basis) get out of the car and run alongside (for 5 kms or more) as he drove, after doing a...

Re: Some Cause For Hope
I just saw some footage of the training, and from the little I saw, Max Heath should be tried at FF. Moves beautifully. Knows when to lead. He'd probably kick 50 in a season. Maybe play him there in the practise matches, anyway? Max King could be played at CHF, with more space to work? Twin towers ....

Re: Champion Data Club by Club rankings 2024
Champion data focussed and heavily weighted their rating on the top end players, but I think what's being overlooked is that St Kilda bats lower than most other teams. Stocker for instance, a skilled and very handy player being left out of games and considered one of our fringe players. Billings not...

Oops ... I almost referred to this team stat table re: clearances from fox sports, thinking it was for 2023, but it doesn't appear to be?? I wonder what year it was from? It shows Collingwood finishing 17th in clearance. https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/stats/teams?editiondata=none&fromakamai=tr...

Re: Best teams
In reality, there may not be as much control as you think ... we're talking about a very tight and heavily contested space (that zone you're referring to) and split seconds. The ruckmen vie against each other and try to outreach and outposition their opponent during the hitout - they are looking and...

Re: Best teams
The midfield largely wins the clearances ... 90% of the hit outs are neither here nor there .A lot of hitouts go straight to opposition midifelders, even from "dominating" ruckmen. It is a very tight and contested space. It's hard to draw meaningful conclusions when comparing clearance num...

Re: Best teams
Gotta feeling we might have a crack at Ned Moyle..if that’s the case Cambell will be in trouble! I hope not ... if we have a look at his stats this year vs Marshall's. 4.5 disposals average with 77.5% game time ... based on 2 games at the Suns. Campbell would still deliver a lot better than that. I...

Re: Liam Stocker: Where’s he at?
Providing we improve our overall leg speed and spread next year with our new recruits (I can see a couple getting games early) and we see further development of our second and third year players, Stocker is exactly the player you'd want in your side ... strong, tough, with good kicking skills. You n...

Re: Speed
I remember a series of consecutive losses to visiting gaelic teams who were just too quick for us, and Sheedy finally sorting it out by picking faster players ... overall speed of the side in and of itself can make a big difference.

Roberton was pick 49, I know Shoenmaker has big shoes to fill, but he's a shoemaker by name - he can make his own shoes.

Re: Who do we want in the ND
Moir was apparently rated a top 5 prospect before developing a hip issue or bursitis?
Might be worth a punt if he slides to pick 40, or pick 27 (if we trade up our pick 40)?

Or be could be a fast burn at CHB? An instant star, there, who knows?
Roberton was pick 45 and averaging 25 possessions at CHB under Richo - what could Kingy do, there, given his height and athleticism?
We will probably never find out.

Re: St Kilda's Strengths and Weakness
So some believe Matthews is a successful administrator but Lyon an unsuccessful coach? Lyon was reportedly on $1 mill/year at Freo, when he first started with them ... close to 10 years ago? $1 back then would buy $1.50 now, easy. So, he was "perceived" to be a top-notch coach, back then ...

Re: St Kilda's Strengths and Weakness
We need to assemble the best recruiting team ... whatever it costs.
Fool's paradise, false dawn, whatever ... I know Sicily and May (and their managers) would love to shake Lyon's hand and personally thank him.

Re: St Kilda's Strengths and Weakness
Our recruiting/drafting is our main issue ... apart from the obvious blunders (petracca), even James Worpel at pick 45 vs Clark pick 7. We banked on Clark eventually having the higher ceiling, but Worpel has been the better player from the word go, year after year, and Clark hasn't bridged the gap. ...

Re: St Kilda's Strengths and Weakness
We struggle kicking goals, and we're still bombing it into our F50. And the ball leaves our F50 too easily. Same old, same old. We know where the probably lies, and our two previous coaches also knew, but we still can't do anything about it. Players like Sicily and May love playing against us. We're...

Re: Will Paddy Dow and Liam Henry make us better?
Of course. We're just looking at possibilities - he's averaged 350 metres gained and 16 possessions from 53% game time, in a strong Carlton midfield - I'm just extrapolating from that, and the real possibility that he'll be afforded more game time. The possible upside - as you say. I'm bullish on the...

Re: Will Paddy Dow and Liam Henry make us better?
Crouch is probably better than Dow at throw ins, along the boundary line (where you can use your body against an opponent to get to the drop) ... but Dow would have him covered at the crucial centre clearances, where leg speed and quick hands/quick reflexes are important. They can complement each ot...

Re: Will Paddy Dow and Liam Henry make us better?
Dow averaged 16 possessions with 53% game time this year.
Will be averaging closer to 25 possessions with us, with decent game time.
Disposal can't be worse than Gresham's?
Something he can work at improving, anyway.
