Re: AFL StKilda tax sees Green free to play

Where do you draw the line, though? Who decides what is a spur of the moment brainfade like Finlayson’s or a genuine attempt to stir up hatred against, in this case, gays. I think it is a slippery slope. Scotland has had thousands of complaints in the first week of the new law, many I suspect to set...

Re: AFL StKilda tax sees Green free to play

Smashing someone’s head to the ground, cool. Old time rubbish politically incorrect slur, 3 weeks. I would suggest the if the recipient of the slur, was in fact, er, um, genuinely linked to the slur, then one to two weeks. Call me a civil libertarian. I’m much more concerned about what people do th...

Re: How do we fix the forward line?

Fix the midfield. A good midfield can make an average forward line look fantastic. That’s got to be the priority. The other thing is, do we have anyone with natural goal-sense up forward? Don’t think we have a Milne or Gehrig … someone who just knows where they are instinctively. Higgins, for examp...

Re: Owens

Owens was definitely up the ground more in the 2nd half yesterday and we were using Hammer as 2nd ruck Also saw a bit more run and movement from Pou with a bit more kicking than usual Well I wouldn’t be surprised if Phillipou becomes an A-grade or better midfielder, but I reckon it’s a couple of ye...

Re: Owens

So we lack star quality in the midfield and I have been hoping Owens and Windhager can become our version of Dangerfield and Selwood or our Petracca-Oliver or Dusty-Cotchin. Maybe that is a little ambitious, but it’s ok to dream .., I saw the match only on TV and was wondering if anyone at the groun...

Re: Saints once again under appreciated by the media

Yes I accept they are a fact of life, but we do seem to get whacked with the injury stick more than others. Even at full strength, our midfield lacks that star quality other clubs seems to have. Good, solid players yes, but there’s no Bontempelli or Petracca or Cripps … not yet at least. I would say...

By this logic… one would think that either Caminati or Coops would be sub for the sake of balance.
Let's hope one of them gets the nod as second ruck instead of Michito, who we need as a ground mid at clearances in the absence of Crouch, Windy, etc

Re: Changes for tge Richmond at Gather Round.

Need to ensure we are not smashed at clearances like last week, which is difficult without players such as Crouch, Windhager, Dow, Clark - all injured or suspended. People say poor conversion was the culprit last week and, sure, it played a role … but Essendon finished all over us. Ideally Owens is ...

Re: Owens

2nd coming of Carey was tongue in cheek - we do overrate him though. Imo he would be a weapon as an inside mid - as he was as a junior I’d have Steele - Crouch Windhager - Dow Owens - Phillipou Ad inside mids So we’re down a few clearance midfielders. Crouch, Dow, Windy all injured or suspended thi...

Re: Owens

So who is 2nd ruck if Owens isn’t? We don’t have one Marshall needs more of a chop out - he was too tired at the end and it really cost us I don’t think Ross is going to play Campbell unless as first ruck if Marshall falls over. He’d say not mobile enough and you don’t get enough out of him in othe...

Re: Owens

Look at who’s won Browlows - the ‘money men’ Cripps Neale Wines Martin Dangerfield Bull mids - of which he should be one!!! Yes, I wonder why the reluctance. Here’s a few possibilities: He doesn’t have the tank. He’s too valuable forward. We need him to be second ruck. I could cop the first one if ...

Needs to play on ball. Not a good enough kick to be a forward

And there's this:

Essendon went on to win the clearance count 23-10, including 9-1 centre clearances, in the second half.

Re: Max King 1 match suspension rough conduct

Tom Lynch (Richmond) should get at least 1 week. Late head high hit on Zac Butters. He wasn't in the marking contest and it was just an elbow in the back of Zac's head. Last few times he's taken people out he got off scott free. In the match against us in the Semi final in 2020 he split Ben Paton's...

Re: Arie Schoenmaker to debut?

He won’t play wing He’s been likened to Battle except less defensive than Battle His skill is he reads it well, intercepts well and his leg He could be useful to kick over, stretch zones but he’s not a key defender I don’t think he plays based on like for like If King goes - Caminiti probably Pou t...

Re: Arie Schoenmaker to debut?

The wing requires an enormous tank You can’t just sit behind the footy and rack up uncontested marks and get cheap possessions He is obviously a defender Obvious to who? It’s obvious to me he is a footballer. Many, many good players have started as halfbacks and diversified into other roles. It’s a...

Caminti to full forward and Butler in for Henry.
He’s been playing as a half-back, but near enough imo. Maybe a bit more two-way running, but a natural footballer should be able to make the adjustment very quickly.

Re: Max King 1 match suspension rough conduct

Wright left the ground He’s gone 4 at minimum Only thing that saved him from more is he’s facing the ball unlike Webster The club ought to kick up a real stink about this behind the scenes if he gets off with a couple. Re: Changes for next week

My stab at like-for-like. Caminiti for King, Butler for Henry, Scheonmaker for Wood. Admittedly have seen only highlights of Scheonmaker, but I like what I’ve seen. He’s coming off a BOG for Sandy, is a good size, aerially strong and a thumping kick. Sounds like a winger. Don’t know whether Crouch i...
