Re: Worst possible start to the season we were all fearing...
A reasonable effort, but still it's a loss and we looked sloppy in skills, midfield largely flogged, but then Geelong were just a little bit more sure in their ball handling. A pity Dempsey got two pretty easy goals by standing by himself, not sure who is opponent was, maybe Wood? Disappointed that ...

Re: Phillipou
Pou is a way off yet, but will build and is not a midfielder. A talented young player who should be developed in the forward half and some of this should be done at Sandy. The game was lost in the coach's box the other night.

Re: Team structure was warped IMO
Yeah we look unbalanced last night, and moving Sharman around was pointless- he is a forward as is Pou who is not a natural midfielder. When you have a losing midfield, then it's hard for forwards really take on the game.

Ross Lyon is not a Jones fan Lyon gave him some direct feedback at training- about taking the kick, and not trying to take on and beat 2/3 players Jones argued back - Ross later heard saying I can’t put up with that s***! Big effort by Collard Sub I reckon I've noticed in the past that Jones gets t...

Re: I would like everyone's honest opinion
Probably not- our midfield is too slow, and if we can't get any drive from our half back line, we will lose.

Good player, but I don't think he's a match-winner. I hope he gets back soon though.

Re: Webster appalling
Yes, I'd say that suspensions handed out during Michael Christian's tenure have for the most part been hopelessly inadequate. He should have been moved on three years ago. His appalling failure with the Pickett two week suspension last year should have been the final nail in his coffin. However, it...

Re: StKilda again the ones that cop it.
As an older Sainter, I know how much this club has been shafted at the tribunal, and our weak administrations over the years just bent over and took it. I also know that we have had too many di#khead players who couldn't control their anger at times. But watching Webster the other day when he lined ...

Can't believe he did it- didn't need to, wasn't tough and he can wear the bloody consequences. Should spend a bit of time at Sandy when he gets back.

Re: Webster appalling
As there will be no AFL superstar compensation and he doesn't play with a "big club", Jimmy will get 6-8wks. It was no worse than SPP's hit, but the AFL will go hard at him. It was worse than the SPP bump every way you look at it. Webster lined up the guy, elbow up and jumped off the grou...

Re: Webster appalling
Webster's tackle was just weak sh*t and I hope he gets whacked with a big penalty. I want to see the Saints get our next premiership, and with Websters types running around doing their own thing and not the team thing, then it sets us back again, as it has in the past with so many Saints loose canno...

The AFL sent a clear message by rubbing out SPP for 4 weeks. I thought Webster's effort was pis$ weak and he deserves a big stretch on the sidelines.

Re: Webster appalling
Maynard's collision was the aftermath of him actually trying to smother the ball. Jimmy's was just a bad decision to jump in and crunch the player. That said, I'm still a fan of Jimmy's -- one of the truly courageous footballers around. I feel sure he was aiming at a hip and shoulder encounter. But...

The AFL have sent a clear message about these kind of "tackles" related to concussion issues, and until players start to get real about it, then the suspensions and penalties will keep getting bigger

Re: Hunter Clark is injured again and looking at 6 weeks...
Not sure about RL's view of chronically injured players who are in and out of the team. Success relies a lot on consistency and keeping stability across the lines, not swapping players in and out of positions. Clark and Jones are great additions when fully fit, but seem like their bodies are eggshel...

The ongoing injury situation of Jones and Clark is a worry- not sure if a coach would try and plan a team with those two, as I can't see either playing a full season sadly.

Re: Match Sim 1 vs Essendon
Yeah that’s an interesting last comment. I strongly suspect that had Pou not been from SA that he would have been dropped late in the season last year, as I just didn’t think his output warranted remaining in the team, but I don’t think they wanted to give him the slightest reason to consider going...

Re: Match Sim 1 vs Essendon
We have the firepower up forward, but we need that midfield to step up a bit and get the ball to the forwards cleanly- one the reasons we weren't kicking big enough scores last season. Couldn't see evidence in the praccy match of much difference to last season, as Essendon got it out a bit too easy ...

Re: Brayshaw - leave thread here as it affects the future of footy in general
It was the straw that broke the camel's back, Brayshaw was a ticking timebomb unfortunately. Also, whether you're a 'thug' or not 100% depends on what colour jumper you're wearing  Feel sorry for a top player who has his career cut down like this, as the cumulative effects of many head knocks ...

Re: Training Reports
I've not seen any evidence that Sincs role is going to change much this year. I still think he is best served off half back, and spend Q4 in the middle unless the game is iced. The problem being that our midfield in some games just went missing and Sincs went in there to add some spark, but we took...

Re: Break out smokeys
It takes a contested ball beast to win games off their own boot. Jack Steele has been that for us in the past. Should be able to do it again this year. Add Owens and Pou to that list hopefully this year. Steele will always give 100%. In the final last year, he got lots of possessions, but the GWS m...
