It's not just silk.
He's probably the toughest player we have - mentally. He never shies away from it, whether physically or mentally in terms of trusting himself and facing challenges or risks.
Captain material.

Re: Positives
Gresham - gave us great drive The others were all well below their best, so hopefully that is where the upside we need to beat Port will come from. I actually disagree about Gresham. He seems to be devolving to me. - general skill is really low - goal kicking is farcically poor - plays for free kic...

Re: The Adelaide game : Big Baromemeter Check
I think the freo game is even more important and indicative of where we're at. This is the sort of game we always drop. We have momentum, we have a chance to solidify a strong ladder position, we're playing outside Melbourne, we'll be favourites We always drop these. To play well and win will sugge...

Re: Dan Hannebery - call it
He's clearly a cut above pretty much everyone else in the team. His skills, touch, precision at speed under pressure. He's also clearly a shell of his former prime self. It's not 2014 any more, clearly, but he's still been contributing. His salary won't be too complicated if it runs out in 2022...we...

Kent was excellent.
I'm not a fan of his. I don't trust his output. But he's played super well 2 weeks in a row now. Good on him

Re: Match Thread Saints v Blues Round 5 2020
Interesting team stats: We won less hitouts and only had 3 "hitouts to advantage" vs 9 "hitouts to advantage" by Carlton - but even though we were 6 hitouts to advantage down, we still won 3 more clearances. So much for "hitouts to advantage." Anyway, Marshall had 19 d...

Re: 15 Goals 3
Two reasons for this.
1 / No crowd. Clearly less stressful for the players. I wouldn't be surprised if accuracy was much better across the whole comp.
2 / Better shots from better ball movement.

I'm optimistic about Marsh. Have been since watching his WAFL highlights. I see him as a faster Jason Blake type. However, he still needs to prove himself in skill level, rather than pure physicality. This is why I would take Battle ahead of Marsh all day long, no matter the role you want them to pl...

Cal Wilkie is an absolute stud. We struck gold with Sam Fisher once, and about 15 years later struck gold again with Cal Wilkie. He is so versatile, rock solid and complete. Genuine captain material at this rate (in circumstances similar to those which lead to Geary's captaincy, in terms of the lis...

Plus JB kept his eyes on the footy, didn't duck his head, went back with the flight and took a strong contested mark. His skills were sublime. BOG for mine No doubt he enjoys playing the Doggies and I'd say he stuck it up the Bont and stuck it up the critics I was really impressed with Billings too...

Re: Gold Coast Priority picks
Their number one pick is a dead set gun. The potential to be as good as any midfielder in recent memory. The priority picks are not worth complaining about. We did well out of the system in the early 2000s, and we receive money from the league. There are all kinds of mechanisms in place to try to ke...

Re: Team v Dogs
The only player in the current squad who plays for the jumper. That's a huge call. I'm guessing you must know all our players very well. Geary definitely gives 100% for the jumper every time he plays. Not quite the same thing, but Geary has moments and patches when he goes into his shell for lack o...

Re: Rounds 2 to 5
Good post. Rd 1 against north was so disappointing. Basically the last straw (in the context of big games listed above, or the few opportunities we've had to win 8 pt games for ladder position) in terms of showing that our players play like they don't care about the jumper. I've lost so much respect...

Re: Marsh 2 Game thread
JB needs a breakout season, I still feel there's more potential there to break games open. Billings is not going to break games open. In my view he completely lacks potential in this area. He has no killer instinct or the kind of mental toughness (as opposed to general mental toughness) to do that....

Re: Fitter Gresham in push for midfield role
He needs Brad Hill to teach him how to kick. The last couple of seasons he developed bad habits just putting the ball up sky high and long, often kicking across his body.
Will be a weapon if he lowers his eyes and spots up when he's through the middle

Re: Is Jonno Marsh the new Jake Stringer?
I see Jono Marsh as being more like Jason Blake / Sam Gilbert. I like the idea of a big, fast and hard running, good at ground level and overhead link player For 2020, I think Battle is ideal in that role and Marsh behind him. The little I've seen of Marsh, he doesn't belong as a KPP, but has potent...

Re: Ultimate Swingman
I like Battle as a high high forward. Hit up player who mainly plays between the arcs. Can reinforce behind the ball or exploit in front of the ball depending on the state of the game. I think you can start King deep so he presents at the ball or is an option for a long, deep entry. He'll probably d...

Could play a Jason Blake type of role. Otherwise, I thought he could be a high half forward / hit up leading link player. But I'd take Battle over him in that role 8 days a week if Battle is no longer in the back line.

Re: So what was it with Brandon White?
Without any specific examples, my guess is it was dislike for Richo as much as anything else that created all the angst and mystery around White. Cognitive dissonance dictated that if Richo is completely incompetent, White not getting games means he has to have been a gun.

Re: Identity, Leadership, Teamwork - all challenges
That's one of the more bizarre statements that's ever been posted on this forum. Ratten a mercenary? Really? He played at Carlton for 13 years; Coached there for 6 years (left not of his own choosing). Then he went to Hawthorn for 6 years before us. So - in total - he's been at 3 clubs in 25 years....

Identity, Leadership, Teamwork - all challenges
Just a thought that I can't remember a playing group as disjointed as what we have at the moment. The starting 22 will be almost one third new players next season; our two highest paid players - Hanneberry and Hill - have played a total of 6 games for the club; we lack a core of players, let alone a...
