Re: Jack Lonie - How good can he be?

He's one of the players who you want to make it but still have doubts it will happen. Attitude and approach since those final 3 rounds last season are encouraging, but he needs to consistently play at that level to retain his spot.

Re: Unofficial practice match thread

First half had all the Sandy players on the green jumper team, which made the black team with all Saints players look good - don't think the green team scored at all. During this half Clark (black team) looked the goods but to be fair he did not have much opposition. Agree that the spread out of the...

Re: Stephen Milne Career Highlights

Thanks jaxons.
Best small forward I have seen for us, and probably in the game.
Uncanny sense of where the ball would be, other than that cruel bounce in the 2010 grannie.
Shows you how good a froward line we had when you see Riewoldt, Gehrig, Hamill and Milne together.

Yeah I thought the Wells Eicke man count was good. Also:

Record long kicks - Place Kick: 86 yards 1 foot Dave McNamara (St. Kilda) at Launceston 1919...
That is one serious distance. Doubt if an umpire would allow a place kick now with the pace of today's game.

Tackling is an aspect of our game that needs significant improvement.
Let's hope these sessions make a difference.

The Footy Story

THE FOOTY STORY I was cleaning out the garage at my mother in law’s house recently and found a copy of a magazine called “The Footy Story”, published by The Argus newspaper in 1955. It contains many interesting articles of players in the 1950s and summaries of the season highlights from 1922 through...

Re: Modern football: principles and practices

When the club announced a coach for "Tranistion" last season (Kingsley?) I thought at the time how this was going to work with the individual line coaches and whether this would lead to situations on field when players would be unclear as to what to do. A times I thought this was happening...

Blake needs this to be his breakout season. He’s shown he has a lot of talent, but can’t live on promise forever. Granted, last season was badly hit by injury. Here’s hoping he really hits his straps and becomes the star many sense he can be Totally agree, will be watching him closely this season. ...

It will be interesting to see what impact Billy Slater will have on our tackling this season.
I felt in several games last season a lot of our tackles were either pushed aside too easily or lacked intensity.

Re: picks

I thought each club had to ensure they made at least 3 selections in the National Draft - can anyone confirm this and if so, does this exclude rookie upgrades? If 3 selections are required that exclude rookie upgrades then I can understand bringing in picks 36 and 46 for 28 makes a better case - the...

Re: Let the Pick 4 Auction Begin

With Walsh being a Victorian and Carlton needing a stronger midfield, it is reasonable to assume they will take him with pick 1. It then comes down to what Gold Coast has done or will do with picks 2 and 3 as our pick 4 will only hold bargaining power if one or more of Lukosius and Rankine are still...

well clarkson can take them to a top four finish. he'd have us playing a heck of a lot better than richo. knows his players and how to get the best out of them, and how to train them to play a successful game plan. richo has shown the exact opposite. Received a bit of an inside running today - Ratt...

Agree that our 'method' is outdated, especially against the best teams. It drives me nuts when we are unable to get a quick forward entry we decide to adopt the statistic friendly approach of going sideways and/or backwards to effect a switch which is way too slow and ends up either a) being a bomb ...
