Re: Team v Dees
Really simple game this one. Win the battle of the midfield, and we can play Gresham on Hogan, they ain't going to kick a winning score. We need to get right on top of Viney, Jones and Vince in particular, mitigate Gawn's influence, and we're sure to win. Easier said than done, as Viney is having a b...

Shafted timeslot?
We've come off a prime time Saturday night then two Saturday afternoon slots, and we get an early one Sunday against a low drawing interstate side, and you have to have a dig?
Perfectly reasonable fixturing.

Re: Umpire Andrew Stephens a Hawks Fan?
I have no faith whatsoever in what Humphrey-Smith has to say about who this corrupt umpire supports. It was just a throwaway line to disarm the question and move on. I have no doubt this corrupt umpire supports the Hawks, and I have no doubt that somewhere in the back of his brown and gold biased br...

Re: Hugh Goddard
How old was Lever last year? Weitering this year... Or are we conceding that they are probably just better. Kosi impacted at 18, Roo at 19, Maguire 19, Huley, Trengrove, McDonald etc... Birth certificates mean little if you're good enough. At this stage Hugh is not... As I STATED he has got plenty ...

Re: Hugh Goddard
I think his speed and agility is a problem. He's big and heavy (seduced many) but lumbers around a bit in the VFL. He goes OK and has plenty of time, but is not the massive bargain he was thought to be... The ridicule Boekhurst got for being taken before him was interesting... He's playing AFL now,...

So this umpire has just changed his twitter background to a non-Hawthorn image.
Responding in this manner makes this even more suss..
Looking forward to the AFL stage managed response.

Re: General Lee v Hawks
Given it takes time to adjust to the pace of the AFL - some would say a few weeks and given he hasnt played Seniors for 2 years - the 1st quarter nerves can be forgiven completely imo. He just got better as the game went on. He would definitely get a game as a 3rd defender at quite a few teams and ...

Re: General Lee v Hawks
Played an excellent three qtrs and went some way to me eating my words. More than happy to be wrong on Lee. Always thought he's had the talent, not the application. With this latest opportunity it seems the penny may be dropping. Good on him. If he can develop the sort of game he showed on the weeke...

Re: I'm calling it
Aside from pick one  , that draft top 10 is looking one of the best in memory. Hopefully Freeman can round it off for us. *noted that Cripps wasn't in the top 10, but is clearly now in the top 2/3 players from that draft. A real shame he plays for Carlton, a really likable and talented young pl...

Re: I think Minch has made it.
Is an AFL level player no question. Is better than a hell of a lot of regular best 22 players for several teams. We've also seen he has a very high ceiling when he gets his confidence up as shown by his ability to completely dominate at VFL level. When he thinks he belongs he can really own his posi...

Re: "Acres is slow"
Acres is going to an absolute midfield beast.
A couple of his straight line, through the pack bursts were brilliant yesterday, and a sign of things to come.
He reads the play and traffic beautifully, shrugs tackles strongly, just needs more experience/confidence.
An absolute beast.

With Carlisle and Goddard our key backs are set for the next 5-7 years. We do not need Hurley and especially not on the coin being bandied around IMO. The way the game is going, we need 4 players the likes of Jimmy Webster to make up the other 4 defensive spots next to the above mentioned talls, and...

Re: Josh Bruce - Contract watch
500k is below market. I'm sure Bruce would've been offered closer to 700k over a similar period by rivals. Good on him and the club for coming to these terms. Speaks volumes of his character and the clubs direction. And a bit of Boyd perspective required. Bruce is worth half what the dogs are paying...

I agree with this thread.
Been too long since we've had a brownlow medalist, especially considering our rich history.
Steven will win one. Maybe not this year, but as soon as we string a season of 12+ wins together, he better get his tux ready!

Steven in the top 20... Really I'm going to list mids only ... Scott Thompson, Rory Sloan, Tom Rockliff, Dayne Beams, Patrick Cripps, Marc Murphy, Scott Pendlebury, Adam Treloar, David Zaharakis, Brendon Goddard, Nat Fyfe, Lachie Neale, Patrick Dangerfield, Joel Selwood, Sam Mitchell, Jordan Lewis,...

Steven is in the top 20 players in the comp, let alone A grade.
Could likely be top dozen by seasons end.

Re: So how do we beat Hawthorn?
Webster to Rioli? Mitchell gets under 20 possessions and we're half way there. He gets 30+ like he's Nathan Freeman playing VFL 2's... just ridiculous form at the moment and arguably the best player in the comp right now.. Can he be tagged? Who sacrifices their game to stop him? Head to head with St...

Re: How was Tom Hickey..?
7.5/10. A very good game, second half in particular and was instrumental in us taking control from the 3rd qtr on wards. I'd give his game v Port a 9/10. A 4.5/10 v Bulldogs (pretty much the overall team average in a shocking game). He must be played as first ruck and first ruck only. I am a big Hic...

Re: St.Kilda v Collingwood - Round 3
Webster is probably in the top 2 or 3 for foot speed in our side at the moment. Lee would be in a 3 horse race with McCartin and Seb Ross as to who comes last. Cannot drop a very quick, medium defender for a slow, 3rd man up type. Lee comes in for Dempster or Fisher if he is any chance. Which I thin...

I should have done a mystery poll Going off their last 11 AFL Games, choose one player to banish to the VFL then delist and one to lock away on a lucrative long-term deal. Lee is a lost causez. He has amazing potential being 194cm with a beautiful kick and sometimes great mark but he cant handle AFL. Maybe if he changed his 14 year old haircut and got serious. Re: Ins and outs vs Pies
Gilbert in our top 3 or 4 players against Port round 1, has a poor game round 2 (not on his own there) and gets the chop?
Playing in a new position that he is still adjusting to.
Spare me.
