Hickey was always good.
Kind of ruckman GT would have liked and is a poor man's Marshall or Grundy - a good, mobile, fairly skilled big who can run and is excellent below his knees and a great tackler too.
Glad to see him playing well

Re: Question about King?
To me, King has yet to show any special football nous or ability. As an athlete, he is quite special by the standards of our league, because he's 6ft8 and moves more fluidly than most guys who are 6ft6. To this point, he hasn't shown (that I've seen) particularly special abilities in - reading the f...

Re: What is wrong with our midfield? The Age
We seem to play with a passive mentality. Nobody really shows any explicit (as opposed to implicit, ie Steele) leadership out there. It looks like a group of players who do not hold themselves accountable to any certain standard. However we're playing that day seems to be acceptable...? The leaders,...

Re: Should players be required to wear basic helmets?
The brain doesn't have to 'rattle' inside the head. Having studied concussion and post-concussion symptoms, I can tell you - you do not have to hit your head to have a concussion - you do not have to lose consciousness to have a concussion - only 10% of concussions lose consciousness Thc lassic coup...

Re: How do we keep falling from a cliff year after year
Gresham's entire lower extremity was vulnerable to re-injury after the PCL injury and months of deconditioning that lead to, rather closely related to the achilles considering the role gastrocs plays in stabilising the back of the knee, from which he was inadequately rehabbed, as evidenced by the fa...

Re: How do we keep falling from a cliff year after year
Yeah, more or less. Whoever was responsible for his rehab did not ensure his achilles was robust enough. Probably got too focused on the knee, he would have passed his range of motion and strength tests for the knee and just overlooked his achilles which had been de-loaded over the whole time he was...

Re: Question about King?
The coach loves deep entries - bombing it to the square - so he wants a target. Unfortunately it's the easiest thing in the game to defend so he is always outnumbered. Remember Roo had Hamil, Kosi and G-train. He also got to present to Hayes, Harvey and Aussie Jones. I agree it would be good for him...

Re: The malignancy had 10 disposals!
Anyone who really thinks one player is the problem is seriously deluded. Talk about missing the point! If that were the case it only highlights more the fragility of the group as a whole and the system as a whole. Systems and organisations are supposed to be robust enough to handle one or two parts...

Re: How do we keep falling from a cliff year after year
As someone else on the forum said, the place is run by gamblers. At the moment, we care more about selling memberships just to get through one more year than we care about building sustained success. We also drink our own bathwater way too much and lack the high standards required of an elite sporti...

Re: Not fit
To me this was the lesson in the WCE game that was overlooked. The take away from that game wasn't or shouldn't have been the 2nd half, but the 1st half. How we can play with effort and endeavour and be down by 33 points was the key take-away which apparently was glossed over by the club. Execution ...

Re: Not fit
It's because the execution is so poor. We make the game so hard for ourselves and so easy for the opposition. If the only way you can score is off a turnover and a huge surging run on the rebound to get in over the back of the defence, you will run yourself into the ground. Or, bang it forward and h...

Re: Dmac - Mark 2
DMac was bloody good against WCE. Many important touches and contests. But to me he still doesn't look like a footballer. He has a very slow kick - literally the time it takes him to drop the ball onto his boot is like an extra step worth of time. I don't trust his kicking and I think he doesn't tru...

Re: 33 points down and we win by 20. You cannot be serious
Get out your book of cliches to describe this win and I will match you times two. We have established the template. For ever game we play. Forever. Seriously. 33 points down at 3/4 time and we win by 20. Pull the other one. And we did it by relentless pressure. ... At times we were terrible, we le...

N0 thanks. Billings is only underrated on this forum, but not by the club. Last year he was second in disposals behind Steele. first in the number of kicks, 5th in marks taken, 2nd in the number of handballs given off, 4th in contested possessions, 1st in uncontested possessions, 3rd in score assis...

Re: Ben Long
The coach loves Long because he is freakishly intense. His attack on the man, his attack on the ball, his willingness to play aggressively with the ball (in terms of playing the corridor, trying kicks or handpasses which open the game up) are all 100/100. This is why he's in the team. If you want to...

Re: Players I would most like to see improve.
1. Brad Hill. If he wins our B&F then we win the flag. A matchwinner who is cream on our cake. 2. Max King. If he can clunk marks and average 4 goals a game then we will be hard to beat. 3. Hunter Clark. If he improve as much as Steele did this year then we will have another A- grade mid. 4. Ja...

They've been working on it for a few years, but it seems the rules committee has finally succeeded in destroying the sport. Gonna be a horrendous season to watch this frivolous crap. Such a shame. Hope it changes.

Re: Midfield Depth
It wasn't a weakness. I don't know the stats, but Ratten said we're generally quite good from stoppage, especially score from stoppage, which is why Richmond towelling us up in that category in the last game of the year was ironic. If everything goes right, nobody is injured and everyone improves, m...

Re: Which is the better King??
Max dropped some marks last year, probably a confidence thing But he took 30 contested marks for the season For a first year player that an effort! I reckon this season it’ll be closer to 50 now that he’s had a taste Possible this has to do with opportunity. I have no idea about this, but I wonder ...

Re: Captaincy thoughts?
Marshall is not on top of his game yet. He struggled a little to get used to playing with Ryder last season. I don't think he's there yet in understanding his role. Steele will be under a lot of pressure to repeat his season. He also wasn't in the nominated leadership group last season. I mean he's...

Re: Dangerous gun midfielders or onballers
Robert Harvey is definitely underrated!!! Especially when you hear things like his greatest asset was his endurance. I would say he was a little more than a guy who could run He won the footy, was one touch, was creative, elite handballer, rarely missed a target by foot, was powerful, strong and su...

Billings
Hill
Roberton
This was our 2020 leadership group. Only 1 of them in the top 10.
This is damning. If B&F votes are the best way to assess whether or not a player is fulfilling the role required of him in the team, our 'leaders' were a great disappointment this year.

Re: Confirmed. Battle Marsh and Savage In. Tigs Lynch & Broad in
Good inclusions, all considered. Marsh gives us flexibility...ruck (minimal, but just in case Marshall needs a rest), defender, or defensive forward. Apparently beating Richmond relies on stopping their defenders marking the ball and rebounding. I'd consider Marsh as a defensive forward, where his s...
