Re: Finals discussion thread

I 'm with you, SP. the luck that is supposedly with the tiggers may yet turn on them and bite them on the bum. They'll probably win this week, but they will fail in the big one, methinks. Is that just wishful thinking?

Kerouac drunk himself to death. A,closet, and a closet saints supporter, obviously. Tortured, brilliant, an alcoholic, drug addict and ultimately a failure. A perfect fit.

time to bite the bullet, create an environment that will improve the kids we have, use our picks on new kids and hope we get a champ , all the good prospects from other clubs have resigned. time to do the hard yards again. No one has done more hard yards than saints supporters. We're now five years ...

We overlooked Jack Darling to get Cripps. Then, to add insult to injury he ends up at WC as well for a couple of junk picks. GOP at best, who won't get any better. A bit of a howler, really.

"No plan survives contact." - Erwin Rommel. German General WWII. Or it might have been Brynne Edelsten. I think Rommel had the rank of Field Marshall He held the rank of General who served as a Field Marshall of the Wehrmacht in WWII. A bit confusing, but you serve as both simultaneously....

Re: Jaxons come on down (2017/18 thread)

This. We may yet be able to salvage something from the situation. No point in going after Rocky, methinks. The trick now is to try and nail potential elite talent from someone else's list. Carlton has been trying to do that by mining GWS's surplus talent, with some success that is likely to bear som...

Re: Stringer

Had a very interesting conversation with a close family friend of the Stringer's while doing a speaking gig in Bendigo, his home town today. The place is a buzz with what his next move might be. Seems he once played a couple of games for the Bendigo Bombers. Anyhow, the nice lady I spoke to assured ...

Re: How's that great deal looking now?

Surely the overall outcome is the measure. Acquiring the picks is only the first part of the deal. Surely what you do with it and how that turns out allows us to assess that deal. Your version is an incomplete proposition. As I said, if I buy my house for half the market value, then that looks like ...

Re: How's that great deal looking now?

If I buy a car for an absolute bargain price, but after a few kilometres it breaks down and needs repairs costing more than I paid for it, does that mean the original deal was still a bargain, or is it now a terrible deal because of the ultimate outcome ? The end result determines the value of the d...

It seems GregPackhamsHeadband is starting to fray at the edges  Fraying? More like torn. Re: How's that great deal looking now?

I wish I was wrong about this and you were right, but we are about where we should be, given how we've done over the past six years. We're nowhere near the better clubs in terms of strike rate, especially when you factor in our very advantageous drafting position in that time. Our rookie picks, trad...

McCartin for Stringer? One is talented, inconsistent, injury prone and after generating huge expectations has been a disappointment. The other one is Jake Stringer.

Re: How's that great deal looking now?

Top 20 or 25. Not much difference. I've broken down Elshaug's record for the six years he's been in charge. I've broken it into the various categories, including the most controversial one, which is the jury is out section. I included players in this category, who for one reason or another have not ...

Good call, Moods. Extend his contract now. I was under the impression we had him stitched up until 2020. Don't want the purple puke and West Coke to get in his ear. Will be a gun if he puts in the work.

Re: How's that great deal looking now?

If its too early to tell, why raise it? On face value, it is one of the most one sided deals ever achieved. End of story. Not yet it's not. What if we blow the two picks? Get a Kane Tenace and a Barry Brooks for example? The whole outcome depends on what we do with the pick 7 we acquired. Jury out ...

Re: How's that great deal looking now?

I am not sure of the logic being used when evaluating the deal as a loss. The OP says that we will stuff up this years pick 7 because our recruiting dept is no good, yet we would have nailed pick 10 last year with the same recruiting dept? There is absolutely no way anyone could evaluate that deal ...

Re: How's that great deal looking now?

Beno nailed it. I can't remember when the deal was done, anybody saying we would get Martin or Kelly with those picks. Still a deal very much in our favour. My point is, KFT, at this stage, yes, it still favours us, but what will it look like in 12 months time? JOM was looking very promising toward...

Re: How's that great deal looking now?

Is the OP serious? Has trade week already finished and we got nothing? Has Florent turned out to be a first year superstar? Have we already agreed that there's no decent talent going at picks 7 & 8 this year? Did JOM not struggle with injury most of 2017? Have Elshaug's excellent selections in ...
