Re: What helped St Kilda “over-perform” in 2016-2017 if it wasn’t Richo?

Great responses. The stand outs seem to be for me, 1) Richo isn't doing anything more/less/differently in '18 as he did in '17 and '16 2) The leadership and role-modeling effects of Roo, Fisher, Joey and co. simply evaporated and mean diddly now. (possibly, it stunted the potential of the current cr...

What helped St Kilda “over-perform” in 2016-2017 if it wasn’t Richo?

OK. I am devils advocate again, as I can’t see why I should disagree with the idea about change, however W. Carey suggested the Saints played above themselves in ‘16 and ‘17 on MMM Rub today when they discussed St Kilda. Now that Richo is number one target at the shooting range, I’m just wondering, ...

Re: BJ ...if we offered him one year just for leadership ..would if hurt us long term ?

Taking the 'Games-are-not-for-training-always-choose-Best 22 ' perspective, right now, this week, against Richmond tonight, what would BJ bring to our team, forward, back, midfield etc.,? that our current lot are in need of? Are any of the current players similar to him in terms of what they offer, ...

Re: BJ ...if we offered him one year just for leadership ..would if hurt us long term ?

B.J. 'Pretzel' Goddard crossed my mind as an Ass Coach or spare parts man but I don't think he'll wanna be training his guts out to be playing at Sandy like Shane Wakelin did fro Williamstown until fianlly recalled. too. I wonder if young players would respond to him? At first I thought he might be ...

Re: Billings in best 4 weeks straight

Can I ask you then, did you believe the Footy shows’ and their hosts like Lloyd etc., when they said they expected St Kilda to slip down the ladder a few places in 2018 at the time? I didn’t know about about any players from the post-Thomas/Lyon era then, but I tended to agree with them that we play...

Re: Rumour: Harves to coach us in 2020

“My decision to leave the St Kilda Football Club was a difficult one. I have a great love for the club and a strong desire to one day return to the club in the future.” So said Harvs according to an article published in Herald Sun on Oct 20, 2011 in the smoke of Lyon’s departure. I take it he wasn’t...

Re: One Year on - 30% change

Yes, and lf the seven, injuries aside, how many of them are doing better in 2018? Carlisle? McCartin to finally break out this week and kick six. Port buries their highlight reel of the last two minutes last year. The prelim loss back in the Grant Thomas era (I hope that was in fact, GT era) still s...

Re: Logan Austin or Sam Gilbert fro Port game?

I well remember your name sake though. Shane played 50 odd games for us before deserting us to join the down hill skiers where he went on to play more games than he played with us, unfortunately. His dad mick played with Nth from memory. Any way the one good thing I remember is that Shane played hi...

Logan Austin or Sam Gilbert fro Port game?

As you know, I’m still new and pretty clueless about the players (other than the most well known). Could anyone colour in the picture for me a bit more by offering their opinions about these two as defensive possible selection choices for this week? I.e. the pros and cons of picking either of them?

Re: Where do St Kilda go from here??

I haven’t been following this situation as deeply as you all and so I feel a bit trollish not knowing how the actual players have traveled along the course of the past few years. I’ve jus two things to say/ask. 1) until the mid-latter part of the 2017 season it al ost appeared that Ricoh and the oth...

Sacking the coach will help, along of course with Trout and most of the assistant coaches.
Sacking someone rarely helps.

Replacing them with someone better will almost certainly help though.
Sounds about right judging by Carlton’s tendency to do that too.

Re: Malcolm Blght anyone?

I don’t have a clue about what is going on underneath, but as a supporter it seems like the team that re-ignited everything really came from Grant Thomas and the synergy he had around the boys up to 2006. Strange decisions like rotating captaincy, using the “nu/biz/corporate /gobblygook or not choos...

Re: Richo has lost the players

Absolutely not. They’re all in it together. And they all know what they have to do. It’s bleeding obvious. But for some unknown reason we’ve not been able to do it. But it ain’t lack of effort or desire. Actually Tony it is a lack of effort, skill and desire. The facts, those things in black and wh...

Right, there is a crop of promise there I suppose. Re the McCartin question: I wonder if -just say - McCartin didn’t lift off (and it is looking a bit “Spruce Goosey” at the present) whether he might break contract and go elsewhere in return for something better and then I thought- began to dread - ...

Thanks so much for the responses. The thread got buried so quickly under traffic and our rapid retreat from optimism in 2018. Well, Round three is done and dusted and everyone is despondent and all the dark predictions in the media seem to be playing out. I wasn’t following much in 1997, when Stan A...

Re: Why does it always have to end in a thrashing?

We are just a subsidiary of AFL hq. We are run like a company in administration. We don't make our own decisions. Finnis is an AFL plant. Richo probably knows he is safe because the AFL have decided they want stability. Everything else is just marketing to sell hope to us plebs. From the AFLs persp...

Re: Richo - the king of excuses

I heard a commentator saying (Nathan -the retired one- Brown) that he was concerned because he “couldn’t see a definite game plan”. I’m never sure what this statement really means, altho ive heard it often about Buckley and Collingwood. I mean, having an obvious game plan wouldn’t be good in most co...

Hi..live in Japan now, but SE suburbanite Saints fan since about 1971-2. First jumper was disappointing for an 8 year-old, no. 34 (hence user name, and sorry Shane). I watched in despair as my first 10 years of fan saw St Kilda fall from grace to the bottom. (With the exciting and tantalizingly 'alm...
