I like and admire Blake. He's courageous, he's loyal, he runs to space exceptionally well, he's a terrific mark, and he tries his guts out, every time. Unfortunately he is a klutz. This affects significant parts of his game -- handballing, tackling, decision making, etc etc etc. So he's a credit to...

Re: How Thomo would attack Geelong this week

luke penny was terrible anyway... Wrong. The two players from 2004/05 who made us a premiership team were Luke Penny and Aaron Hamill, a quality backman who rarely made mistakes and took saving marks and a forward who was tougher than any backman and kicked the crucial goal. Had both been fit in th...

Maybe it was the flu

Just as we should never get too carried away with one win, one loss does not make a season either. Without doubt, the loss exposed some weaknesses, especially in relation to the opposition. Fortunately, there is only one other team in the AFL which has similar strengths to match the Dogs. Unfortunat...

Re: Umpiring, Rules Committee and the AFL destroying the gam

WHY I ask, have recent grand finals been umpired in a totally different way to the rest of the season? They haven't. What happens is that the best umpires always umpire that way, but there are few of them, some times as few as three! The classic case is Brett Allen, who unfortunately retired withou...

They were too good - simple as that.

The Dogs are close to the Cats at the moment, better in speed but not as good in defence. Their foot skills are on a par. The Dogs appear to have bulked up to enable them to break make tackles and successfully lay others. I note that these two teams do not meet until round 16, after we play the Dogs...

All things are relative - Footscray is very fast and hardly missed a target at all with their field kicking - definite improvement for them on last year. Our blokes looked they had the flu after quarter time. Hill looks some player. Goddard got through the game so that's one good thing. Kosi did som...

'Classic' Saints v Bulldogs Photo

Went to the Dome website to check details and a still photo from a past Saints V Bulldogs game popped up. Baldock V Whitten? No. Winmar V Hawkins? No. Harvey V West? No. It was - wait for it - Ackland V Bandy (at least I think it's Bandy), from a game in 2005 which was at the MCG! What a ruck contes...

Why can't we play play the Blues four times this year? And Melbourne. And Richmond. It's only fair!

He's a very skilled player - but, for a footballer (as opposed to supporter like me) - a bit porky at the moment. He'll need to watch himself when he stops playing. So much for discipline at the Blues. Gee, what a difference 20 years makes - Saints v Blues wise.
