Re: Jaxons come on down (2017/18 thread)
Good post CQ. Except for suggesting trade out Geary, now or ever. Won't and shouldn't happen. He is a top class elite one on one player and an excellent reader of the play. And the captain. The point about needing kids for 3, 4, 5 years time is the confounding factor for me. I'd be nervous not addin...

Re: G Ablett has asked to go back to Sleepy Hollow
It won't happen, but I should hope he earns a fair amount of ridicule from this and loses a decent amount of respect too.
Also, we all admire Geelong for doing a lot right that they've been a very successful club for a long time now BUT boy have they had some luck.

Re: Brownlow 2017
I didn't pay any attention but just looked at the results now. Is it any co-incidence that players get more votes than ever now? Surely the best players in the comp aren't more dominant than ever...I really think it has to do with the saturation of media coverage, turning very, very good players lik...

Re: Jack Lonie having an impact deep into September
It wasn't deliberate so he should get off. Hopefully Sloan gets off as well. Martin will win Brownlow plus build up will be too much and Tigers will crash in GF. They have had 2 soft finals opponents. Crows by 50 points. I disagree. I think Adelaide are better and I think they will win. But the Tig...

Re: Jaxons come on down (2017/18 thread)
Thanks, magnifisaint (I watch only saints games plus maybe some highlights), howlinwolf and BringBackMadDog. Sounds like a good addition.
Hopefully it's not too expensive and we can still get some gun kids as well.

Re: Jaxons come on down (2017/18 thread)
I'd never heard this guy's name, let alone watched him play.
Can someone answer:
- can he kick?
- is he a good one-on-one player?
Thanks.

Re: Seb Ross - 3rd fastest speed clocked this year
This year, Seb really developed an incredibly powerful running style/technique. There were a few occasions when he put in a 10 or 20m burst that was incredibly quick. Conditions are that it is a very powerful - meaning brief - burst and that he needs a rolling start. He's still not dynamite off the ...

Re: Finals discussion thread
I want either GWS or Adelaide to win. I can't stand a victorian team winning, it just gets pasted everywhere way too much. I think it would be funny if GWS got in and the crowd was only 90000 or even less. I would love to see the AFL try and spin it. However, it always gets pretty full. A lot of peo...

Re: Stringer
Good post, GPH. There isn't a human being alive that can go through a separation with kids involved and not be adversely affected. I'm ambivalent about him as a player, I couldn't care less really, but I feel for the guy going through that. As a lot of people go through the same...but here is where ...

Re: Seriously. What next?
I disagree that picks 7 and 8 are not worth much because it's a weak draft. Very, very rarely has a good player come out of the draft good. They all take work and luck. Picks 7 and 8 are valuable and we can still improve because of them even if we don't draft Dangerfield and Martin with those picks....

Re: The Official Tom Rockcliff Rumour Thread
Rockliff, not that I've watched him much, really strikes me as a B grade player. Maybe my opinion of him is swayed by his demeanour, which is unimpressive. I really think paying this guy what he'll want will be clutching at straws. If we were to get him, the marketing department would try and presen...

Re: The under-performing season
I think we improved in the sense that the 2017 Saints would demolish the 2016 Saints. Maybe not demolish, but it would be a comfortable win. Overall though, we went backwards relative to the competition when assessed with valid measures: Wins, Losses, Ladder position. For me, we went from being a te...

Re: We Need a Gun Up Forward
I'm thinking that Bruce is not as good as some believe- had a good season a couple of years back and has dropped right away in the areas you want a forward to do well in. I disagree. He may not do as well as some people think he should do as a forward, but for our team, he does his role really, rea...

Re: We Need a Gun Up Forward
It's partly a personnel thing, but it's more so the way we play. We need far better structure in the forward line and to move the ball far better from defence to attack. Gun mids, as mentioned, will help here but even then, we'll still have fundamental things in the way of our ability to score. Thes...

Who reviews the coaches' performance?
Just wondering if anybody knows - who reviews the coaches' performance? (aka Who polices the police?) Does anyone know if we have some external review process on the coaches' performance? Do they get constructive criticism and feedback from people outside of the club? (besides Saintsational). Who do...

Club champion, if not legend. Who would have thought that of all the players we drafted in 2000, 01 and 02, Joey - the least remarkable of them, really - would be so highly decorated. The 2nd most games from anyone in that crop and the 7th most of all time. The 7th most of all time! What a servant, ...

Re: Newnes
Newnes runs hard. Is a brilliant tackler, for both technique and intensity. More or less never gives questionable effort. Has a long boot that could open up the play better if we were better set-up in front of the ball. He often makes poor decisions with his handballs, too many are too short and/or ...

Re: Bruce Accuracy
Imagine the team without Bruce. Far worse. He can't just magically turn into Roo or Carey, he is Josh Bruce. He plays his guts out, executes he role really well, excellent in fact, is consistent in that we know what we get from him. He is not a close to home goal kicking forward. Yes, he missed goal...

Re: Bruce Accuracy
Bruce had an excellent season. True he has lacked polish but has also kicked some lovely goals. We really can't afford to not have him in the team. Our biggest problem this year was finding avenues to goal. Bruce and Membrey are both vital for their running capacity and ability to present as marking...

Re: 1 way we went backwards in '17 - Toughness
Carlisle is as tough as nails. He contests everything in the air. Don't underestimate that. He comes often from way far back, often peeling off his man, always puts himself in the path of the ball, never runs under it or doesn't get there, he has the guts to spot up targets rather than bomb down the...

Re: Ross out of position
It's not to do with Ross but Dunstan and Steele. Richo likes those two, with reason, but they're too one dimensional. Thus, Ross plays wing sometimes because of those 3 (actually, plus Koby), only Ross has another string to his bow.

1 way we went backwards in '17 - Toughness
I'm not saying it's all doom and gloom, we are irredeemably hopeless and the list is rubbish. But I think it's worth pointing out a massive failure for the season. Last year we were much harder to play against. Pressure on the man with the ball, pressure on the ground ball, better hunting in numbers...

5 - Gresham - God knows we need to kick goals 4 - Carlisle - Was a veritable dam wall down there. Would have been far uglier without him. 3 - Longer - Commendable around the ground too. Cracked in harder than anyone else early. I'm struggling to give votes after these three. Some okay performances f...

We are playing soft.
We used to be tough, hard. What happened to hard work and pressure?
Super disappointing half
