Solid start for Goose

Newspaper reports suggest Goose Maguire made an impressive return to senior footy yesterday with the Lions. The Lions' website lists him as accumulating 20 disposals (almost a game high) in an "impressive" display. Did anyone see the game? Early days yet but good signs. I, for one, hopes h...

The Age published a post draw analysis which claimed that Collingwood were big winners on the basis that they had scored something like 19 free-to-air TV games.

Has anyone seen an equivalent figure for us?

I've held these 3 players in high esteem since thier careers began. My take on their current predicament, though, (and I'd add Max to this group) is that they were all, in their way, stars of a game we no longer play. Maguire is the classic CHB; strong, mean, dropped off his man to mark the long bal...

Whipping boys

Fromer Saints whipping boy Justin Plapp made the news in Tassie over the weekend. http://www.examiner.com.au/news/local/sport/general/heartbreak-at-siren-for-gallant-dockers/1621944.aspx The current captain-coach of Burnie had an after the siren set shot to put his team through to the Grand Final of...

Clearly a set play; Maxwell on Mini was the first of at least half a dozen similar hits. Probably strictly within the rules because the shepherder timed their hit each time just as the umpire called play on. The AFL indicated they didn't like it in the Dawson case (I don't think he waited for the ca...

I know he's been written off by many here but I hope that this year's bolter will be X. I live in hope that he is able to put the knocks of the past couple of years behind him and give us something special. A fit and focused X is virtually a new recruit for us and (my increasingly minority opinion i...

Thought he may be in trouble. Happened in the third quarter on the members wing. Didn't see the incident but the aftermath was a spiteful wrestle behind play that was broken up by the emergency umpire. He spoke only to Lenny and appeared to take his number. I was surprised I'd heard nothing until now.

Revenge of the Whipping Boys

Was at the ground today and the most pleasing thing for me was that a number of boys who've, rightly or wrongly, copped a fair bit of stick over the season delivered today. Raph, so often maligned for his 'rabbit in the spotlight' reputation took them on and, more often than not, came off. I like th...

I was in the animal enclosure on that day too - everyone jostling for one last game standing in "their spot". I was prepared with a knife and container so I could take home a piece of Moorabbin turf. While I was hacking away in the middle a suited man tapped me on the shoulder and I though...

Kerr 3 Baker dudded

Just heard Kerr offered 3 weeks for what was clearly an intentional contact with the head. It was, in my eyes, by any reasonable measure a more deliberate action than Bakers and, what's more, caught on camera. Bakes has every reason to feel hard done by

For me the issue is that I want to see that a reasonable and fair process is followed. My understanding is that the tribunal is set up to make a judgement on the case that is put up by the prosecution. In this case, the tribunal appears to have found him not guilty on the case put to them and then a...
