Re: Match Thread Saints v Port Round 7 2024
We've been playing with an undermanned team since round 3. He knows we'd be better with those injured players back in the team. The midfield is killing us. It's putting pressure on both ends of the ground. Marshall is the only player who gets multiple clearances a game. Steele has been good for the ...

Ratugalea is 20Kg heavier than Caminiti and just as athletic. Pretty tough for a 20 year old with 20 games behind him to compete one on one

Hastie 18
Garcia 18
Wilson 18
Phillipou 19
Owens 20
Windhager 20
Caminiti 20
Wanganeen-Milera 21
That's 35% of the team tonight
Port had maybe one player in that bracket
Meanwhile, we're playing with one effective midfielder in Steele.

Re: Match Thread Saints v Port Round 7 2024
Yep. Two goals in the last minute of the second quarter and one goal in the last minute of the third.
Got beaten badly in the clearances in the last 5 minutes.
Umpires have d code that St Kilda played dint deserve a single free kick

Re: Match Thread Saints v Port Round 7 2024
On the positive side we're keeping their midfield honest. Garcia doing a good job on Butters so far. Wilson has been very good. Hill had a good first quarter. Sharman needs to lift. He lacks attack on the ball and the player. He's had some disappointing efforts in recent weeks. With King out, he rea...

OUCh!! It's going to be an uncomfortable night in front of the TV. Hope the neighbours won't hear me screaming my tits off. Amazingly, I sat in calm disbelief at Marvel Stadium last Saturday after reaching a state of zen resignation 10 minutes into the game All I want tonight is some energy and some...

Re: Coming back
Wellard Saint, you're a hard man to impress.
Those assessments were pretty brutal, but everyone has a right to their opinion.
On balance, I think we'd be a better team right now with most of those guys playing, but it still wouldn't make us top four material,

It's been a long wait. Makes you think what could have been in those close ones we lost. I'd happily have 7 of those guys back in the team tonight if they were match fit and available.

Re: Team v Port
It's probably the best 22 we have available. King still injured. No Dow, Clark, Webster, Crouch, Wood, Hayes, or Henry You can't put in your best team in if you have 8 or 9 senior players unavailable. It's a reality we just have to accept at the moment. With luck things will get a lot better in the ...

Don't know why I got it into my head that John Blakey had played for Sydney. Was he an assistant coach there at some point?

Re: Some good news.
I know he had a screw inserted with the original surgery, which then got removed about a month ago because the surgeon thought it was causing more harm than good. It has been giving him a lot of pain and he couldn't train.
A screw normally means a fracture

Re: Some good news.
Unfortunately, things look decidedly grim for James Van Es.
More ankle surgery after more damage done. That's his season over. The club will need to be super cautious with his rehab. It worries me that he may have the kind of damage that could be career threatening

Re: Aberration or reality check or both?
The negative noise is pointless. People who say our list isn't good enough then go off their nut when the team doesn't perform like the Harlem Globetrotters evey week. If you accept the weaknesses in the list then you have to wear it when we have the odd game when things don't work out. Currently, w...

Collingwood came off a bye. Port have not had a break yet. Fresh legs won the day. A lot of Port players looked similar to our guys on Thursday.
I just hope our guys can freshen up a bit before next Friday

Re: Aberration or reality check or both?
We lack midfield talent and on top of that we have Henry, Crouch, Dow, and Clark out to make the situation even worse. We are minimum chips in there at the moment. It's a real shame none of those guys are fit. It would have been interesting to see them in the mix week in, week out. Yes it was bad ag...

Re: Injuries have derailed our season
Interestingly, all the teams who had a bye in the first 6 weeks have played either West Coast, North Melbourne, or Hawthorn in that period, too. GWS got lucky with getting two of those teams Geelong have played two of those teams in 5 rounds. It just shows that a combination of the draw and injuries...

Re: Injuries have derailed our season
Carlton, Brisbane, Gold Coast, and GWS all had byes during that period, too. Swans and Collingwood had byes last week and will come in fresh this week.
Not all games are equal. Not all situations are equal.

Re: Injuries have derailed our season
Combine a host of injuries with very short turnarounds and it makes it harder. I can't believe anyone could think otherwise
