Re: Schoenmaker
It has to be Cordy. Schoenmaker is a pup with a lot to learn. It's always tempting to bring in a youngster and I'm keen to see them get a chance, but I think it's best to let Arie develop at Sandy at this stage

Re: Webster appalling
Vortex, no one is running knives into Jimmy as a virtue signalling exercise. Remember the hit on Koschitzke by Giansiracusa? Absolutely appalling. One of worst things I've seen done to a player. And what happened? Everyone blamed the victim. And what was the impact on Kosi? Terrible. I was outraged ...

Re: Webster appalling
Agreed Bringbackmaddog The important thing here is to give a big penalty and then use it properly as a precedent for future incidents. If the AFL fails in that consistency from this point forward it will leave it open to future Legal action from players. I can just see it now in court. "You had...

Re: Webster appalling
Six weeks is about right. That's what I thought immediately upon seeing it. No excuses for Jimmy on this one. Terrible incident.
Giving him 8- 12 weeks will set a difficult precedent for the AFL. It'll make it harder for them to give soft penalties to high profile players they usually look after.

Re: Training Reports
Seb Ross is a solid player. Has got the best out of himself and that's all you want from a guy who plays for your club.
One of the hardest running, hardest working players on the ground for us. In my view, he plays, and until a gun midfielder emerges, his spot is safe.

Re: Match Sim 1 vs Essendon
My focus was on the new guys and I was impressed by all of them Liam Henry is Brad Hill mark 2. Hard running and clever. He's going to add something for sure Bonner was all class. I always liked him at Port. Elite foot skills and quick across the ground. He is equally the best kick now at St Kilda. ...

We were unlucky to Geelong after kicking badly for goal in the first half, and then we got beaten by a juiced up Collingwood. Those human growth hormones work a treat.

Re: Training Reports
Byrnes still has improvement in him. He's had some really good quarters in games but hasn't got to a consistent level yet. I wouldn't write him off. Leigh Montagna started his career in similar fashion and became a fine player. Let's not forget Sinclair, who was tracking a similar trajectory to Byrn...

Re: Will Ross Continue to Play the Kids?
I think it's about the ability to do the hard running that will count for all but a couple of players. A fit youngster will get picked over a half fit senior player. That's not always been the case in the past I get the impression that Lyon believes we're very much a work in progress. He knows we ca...

Re: Arie Schoenmaker’s club punishment
We'll, in the end he'll sink or swim based on his own motivation. Will be an interesting watch at Sandringham this season. Every year there are highly rated draftees who never make the transition from U18 to AFL. Some can't hack the workload, some can't hack the discipline, and some can't hack the b...

Re: Who will debut early?
Wilson came to us at 74kg. He had put on 9kg during 2023. Looking at vision of him at training, his body is reasonably well developed. Being a hefty 65kg myself, I shudder to think of Collard being tackled by someone like Steven May. Then again, I watched a 66kg Austin Jones come in as an 18 year ol...

Re: Arie Schoenmaker’s club punishment
Some 19 year Olds are like 30 year Olds and some are like 15. There were serious concerns about Dustin Martin early on at Richmond, but it shows with the right coaching and the right peer pressure, potentially wayward or unprofessional types can pull it together. Arie has very driven and professiona...

Re: Who will debut early?
At 65kg, it would be throwing Collard to the wolves. I doubt he'll play unless he gets over 70 kg. Wilson is the best chance because of his elite endurance, which is a perfect fit for Ross Lyon's demanding running game .The only other one I'd give an outside chance to is Hotton, but I'd say he's a 1...

Re: Arie Schoenmaker’s club punishment
Saw him on day one of preseason training. His legs were red after running one lap, so I suspect the issue is that he came to the club in less than ideal condition. Most draftees would work on their fitness prior to the draft and then after being drafted to make sure they'd not be behind the others c...

Once again. Journos desperate to keep themselves relevant during the off-season. Not much news about, so let's make a huge deal about something and create a narrative so we we can bash the story to death.

Re: Bet the house on Ross
Could we glean from the article that Lethlean couldn't keep his nose out of football matters? It seems that way. It may have been hard for him to let go of the influence he once had on the football department. Bassat once again has not shied away from making the hard call. Anyway, the decks have now...

Re: Our midfield/wing options 2020 v 2024
We really need the youngsters to shine. Ross probably has two seasons left, Crouch three. The key is mids who can really run. The difference that Walsh makes for Carlton is enormous. Same with Neale at Brisbane, and Oliver at Melbourne. Having that kind of tank combine with speed is a real advantage...

Re: Our midfield/wing options 2020 v 2024
It's been a long time since we had this many midfield options. The good thing is the ones we've added are not the treacle slow types like Dunstan and Bytel. It's up to Brendan Goddard to now make them a cohesive, dynamic and organised unit
