I expect he’ll be referred to as “embattled Saints coach, Ross Lyon” by someone in the media this week.
But I reckon he’ll need a few more bad losses before the board will act.

Re: Match Thread - Saints V Freo
Battle has been excellent. Marshall, Windhager and Wilson too. NWM hasn't had one of his better games so far. If he can lift in the last quarter, we might get across the line.
It's nice to come up against a team that blows even more of its chances than we do.

Re: Match Thread - Saints V Freo
Marshall with more possessions, more marks, more tackles... but its Jackson that is doing the damage .... or at least seems that way Marshall has been good at ground He doesn’t have enough friends Think Dow will be ok It’s all just entry into 50 …there’s no lowering eyes, finding a free it’s all bo...

Re: Match Thread - Saints V Freo
And I'm not sure why the first player to be criticised is Howard. Our main problems tonight do not lie with our defence. Nor our midfield, which is performing unexpectedly well. It's very difficult to defend against a sudden counter attack which comes about from a totally unexpected turnover up forw...

Re: Match Thread - Saints V Freo
New bunch of forwards, same messy structure. Freo are setting up most of their goals from mistakes we make inside or just outside our forward 50. The biggest weakness in our coaching structure is bleedingly obvious tonight. Dow has improved things in the midfield and Windhager is having an excellent...

Re: Match Thread - Saints V Freo
On the basis of what we've seen so far, Freo have better players than us. But there's not a huge amount in it.

Re: saints interested in players already
For so many years, I have read posts on here about how we are about to land some big name players at the Saints. But it doesn't really happen that often, does it? Hamill and Gehrig were exceptions. Adam Schneider to a certain extent, although he wasn't in any great demand from clubs when he came to ...

Re: Team vs Freo (Walyalup)
For mine, the lineup is better in some respects, but disappointing in others. But I always find it best to defer to the club's understanding of where individual players are at:not only in terms of how they have played in the AFL or VFL, but in training, mental attitude, etc. Assuming all of these pl...

Re: As much as I loathe them maybe we should throw caution to the wind...
We are currently playing more inexperienced players in our AFL lineup than is ideal. If you have too many, the team is just going to get clobbered, and young players aren't going to learn particularly well in that situation. In NRL, a longstanding coaching strategy is that, if you have a few good yo...

Bizarre.
Our defence is the best part of our list. We’ve even got done young defenders with a bit of potential: Keeler, Schornmaker, O’Connell.
Keeping Battle is surely the main priority ATM.

Re: Byrnes for Zebs
Byrnes's disposal by hand and foot is not up to AFL standard, and no amount of time playing in any position in the VFL is going to fix that. He's lucky to be playing at the Saints in 2024. Lyon is one of the few coaches of the AFL in recent decades who will tolerate players with such low skill level...

Re: Philipou’s Manager
It would be naive to think that Pou didn’t have something to say about him be dropped. He’s young, immature and last week was the first time in his careers he’s had to play in the seconds. He’s a prospect, but yet to prove he’ll be a star. I think he’s been he’s been very lucky to play as many game...

Re: Crab watch
I personally find it difficult to get too bothered about losing players like Hind, or Bytel, or Gresham, or even Acres and Billings. All of them have their points, but we've got players coming through now who are likely to be as good or better. I'm bothered more about the 2009 to 2016 period, when we...

Re: Are we going full tilt in 2024????
I'd be tempted that play Collard, too. He's getting low possessions but it's mostly because of the atrocious ball movement and garbage skills and decision making by players up the field. He has more speed and skill than everyone else out there at Sandy. It's perplexing that Owens hasn't been develo...

Must win so Ross will no doubt go to experience. Hayes getting subbed out so early might have stamped his card, but I'd keep. Out: Garcia and Hastie to have a spell (managed), Paton In: Clark, Phillipou, Dow I agree, with Dow as the sub (he seems to be only able to deliver for half a game at the mo...

Re: Philipou’s Manager
So, someone that works for a player management company tweeted - on his own account - an observation about a team that he has no idea on the inner workings of? He isn't Phillipou's agent. Nor does he have anything to do with the St Kilda Football Club...It's also not clear how close to Phillipou he...

Re: wallpaper fallen off - cracks exposed
Aggressive trading to get up in draft - North have no big defenders Howard to north with pick swap in first round ( an example of what we need to do) So we then they have a big defender and we don’t? (I don’t think Cordy really counts: he is a utility player and is a bit shorter than Dougal) I assu...

Re: Philipou’s Manager
Lyon will be given the heat But how much is contributed by forward coach (Robert harvey) and players themselves? Well, it's always the players who ultimately determine whether a game is won or lost. But Lyon is a control freak, as was demonstrated by his whinge on Saturday afternoon about not being...
