Re: Training Reports
If Byrnes is playing round 1 we haven't improved. Geez man, it's early 2024 and you are already into Byrnes. Give bagging the players a rest, at least until the season starts. What if we find a compromise. If Byrnes hasn't improve and is playing round 1, we haven't improved. Ross likes players who ...

Re: Mid-season trading - some misgivings
... not that I'm necessarily in favor of mid-season trading .. but .. It's a thing in major league baseball in the USA, and it's not necessarily a bad thing .. Typically a 'contender will be keen to trade in players who will assist in the run home and the playoffs, and will be prepared to trade out ...

Re: Are we still keen on Ben King?
A neighbor friend of mine who is the doctor at an AFL Club told me that players tend to lose a bit of agility, fitness, form and confidence in their bodies every time they get an injury, especially the soft tissue type. He suggested that injury prone players are unlikely to have long and successful ...

Re: I would love the club to officially recognise Mike Patterson.
I don’t think the Swamp Fox needs special recognition, but I disagree that he was a dud. In 1977 under Ross Smith we won 3 and drew 2 matches. In 1978 , Patterson was coach and we won 11 and drew 1. It was a fun season. He got us playing a very very tough brand of footy - the Baby Bombers still whi...

Re: Injury update
I’d be surprised if Collard plays It’s a long way from WAFL colts to the AFL - he is wafer thin still getting afl fitness In match sim he does some nice things, but is still learning how to find the ball more consistently Butler will be hard to replace with his pressure and speed/endurance From wha...

Re: Round 1 - Cats vs Saints
A very important start to the season, we have Cats and Tigers.
Both opponents appear to be on the slide, and we probably need to win both to get our season off to a positive start.

Re: Umpires perception
It begs the question .. were the test umpires better in the day before the 3rd umpire and slow=mo replayes .. Off the cuff ... I don't recall too many 'howlers' in the days of Lawry, Chappell and Lillie ... I can remember the 50/50 decisions generally favoring the home team though .. especially in E...

Seriously doubt Sharman will ever be the 'Greatest of all time', but I'd be delighted if he became a GAP (good average player) and finished top 10 in our B&F.

Re: Champion Data Club by Club rankings 2024
The sats are fair enough, but their formula is heavily weighted to 'top 10' players, with less emphasis on team defense.
We all know that St Kilda lacks a couple of 'quality mids', and our forward line rates very poorly for effectiveness.

Re: A pair of young guns
Really had little expectations from Caminiti this season, he was a afterthought draft choice made in desperation, young and green with no pre-season. Ultimately his contribution was far in excess of expectation, but as the season wore on his effectiveness declined and he struggled to demand a role i...

The kid hasn't even cemented his spot in the best 22 and you guys are acting like he is a God He did play every game last season, so he's obviously quite cemented in the eyes of the selectors. Although to be fair, I may have personally rested him a few times in favor of Billings. Phillipou reminds ...

Re: Under the pump....Ben King
Reading this post makes me think if we really want both Kings. There are days we love Max, and there are times he frustrates us. On balance he's a great asset. But could we justify both Kings in the same forward line? Sure it would be exciting if they were both 'on' at the same time, and they worked...

Hope you're right about Keeler, we desperately need that type to support Rowan and Max.
A skilled big man with grace and athleticism will will go close to complete the squad.

Re: Goals
Not so confident with that forward line-up. Wood, Caminiti, Sharman & Byrnes probably not the answer, well possibly not all of them. Suggest Higgins or Butler should be there, and not so sure with both Wood & Caminiti, I'd prefer a healthy Membrey on that 1/2 forward line. The rest of that l...

Re: Break out smokeys
Barring injuries, the only space that has opened up is Grehsam's small forward role. We finished 6th, and lost our first final. That team isn't going to improve in 2024 without some serious change of cavalry. The "possession is 9/10 of the law" matters in season, but pre-season it's all o...

Re: Training - Monday December 11
Thanks SaintMike. So if Wilson, Dow and Henry are good enough to line up in our season opener, who makes way? Gresham's spot is the only (really) one available. My team would be based on this B - Wilkie, Howard/Cordy (preference Howard), Webster/Stocker (preference Webster) HB - NWM, Battle, Sincla...

Re: Developing our forward line for a tilt at the premiership...
Very difficult decision coming up for RTB and the rest of the coaches this year regarding our forward line. From my perspective the locks are as follows... Option 1. HF: Hill - Membrey - Owens F: Higgins - King - Butler Option 2. HF: Hill - Sharman - Owens F: Higgins - King - Butler I would go opti...

Re: Speed
It's well and good to have all this blistering speed, but our achilies heal this year was the lack of forward penetration, or more specifically the excessive number of times oppositions intercepted and cleared the ball around our half forward line. Hopefully we can find a way to get some 'Riewolt li...
