Re: Reserves competition

There's one reason a curtain raiser game will never be revived, and that's concentration spans. The youth of today can't spend more than 5 seconds of not being plugged into digital media let alone sit in a chair at the footy for more than one game. I once heard the AFL investigated even shortening ...

Re: Trading: Best Available vs ‘Team Needs’

The decision to draft McCartin shows how amateurish we were In GTs time we were a joke in the recruiting dept The non recruiting of Jack Reiwoldt- shows lack recruiting knowledge List Management and Recruiting is 80% of success Nothing amateurish about it, unless of course they were blessed with th...

i think the key thing people are missing, is that his new role at the AFL is part time. His job with us was full time.

Yeah, that is the point of maturity for an AFL player, a few preseasons and about the 70 game mark. Could turn out to be the bargain of the century.

Re: Dylan Shiel

Free Agency happens first doesnt it? Can't we just take pick 13 as the compo pick. End of. No, because we'd be getting pick 13 because Essendon would be paying Gresham more than he's worth. If Essendon offered Gresham a contract for his true value, we'd only get a second rounder at best as compensa...

Re: Gresham

Shiel at his best was a jet. He is the type of mid we are lacking. I'll back Ross to get him back near his best, if not his best and get 2 or maybe 3 good years out of him. If the rumours are true, that Essendon are willing to offer Gresham enough to trigger a 1st round compo for us (supposedly pic...

Re: Astute trading

Just on Dow. Speaking with a mate of mine who is mad Carlton.. he reckons Dow has a lot of upside. His view is Dow was completely unprotected by the senior players and coaches, was thrown into the middle as a first year player and got absolutely smashed physically. Killed his confidence and never r...

Re: Gresham

People saying no to this deal do not seem to understand it... If approved by the AFL and agreed by Essendon, then the deal is St. kilda: Out: Gresham, Pick 50 In: Pick 13, Shiel Essendon: Out: Shiel and his high salary In: Gresham + pick 50 The pick 13 is created by free agency. So it looks to me l...

Vale Cowboy

Criminally underrated, won us the 66 Premiership, he had a mighty game which is somewhat forgotten compared to Breen's wobbly kick.

Re: Keep Coffield

I think it would be one we would regret as he has the potential to be a very good intercept marker, Don’t do another Acres. Yep Now let’s ask. Could he BE another Acres? He has shown he can play and will potentially get better. However, he's a half back or 3rd big defender, where does he get an opp...

Re: Would Ross Lyon make the difference at Melbourne?

I think Melbourne's issues have more to do with a lack of any genuine quality big forwards than their coaching. Rossy may have got them over the line against Collingwood (without Daicos) last week or against Carlton last night. I doubt he'd get them a Premiership with that lack of any good big forwa...

Re: Would Ross Lyon make the difference at Melbourne?

so now we have a highly talented list ? You've changed your tune. I was making comparison to the clubs 2nd most talented list managed by Ross the first time around, the 1st being the 66 premiership team. The club's second most talented List, I would actually assert the most talented, was managed by...

Re: Bye bye Maynard

I always thought Paul Kelly was more ‘careless’ and James Reyne was the ‘reckless’ one. Though Paul was prone to doing ‘dumb things’. Regardless of the intent, poor Brayshaw is now ‘indisposed’ and probably feeling ‘downhearted’. Maynard needs to take responsibility for his ‘leaps and bounds’ in fu...

Re: Bye bye Maynard

Taking a massive leap without any consideration of where you are landing is reckless. Jumping so high or late that you can't change direction and then lands on the player proves how reckless it was. If you don't have the ball and you throw yourself at the ball and can't possibly lay a legal tackle,...

Re: Bye bye Maynard

I only saw the incident for the first time yesterday, the behind the goal view. The right decision has been made, Michael Christian made the right call, then we get the inevitable AFL Executive Clown Show! Maynard didn't deliberately line him up, he was trying to smother the kick. Maynard was movin...

Re: Bye bye Maynard

The vast majority trying to defend what Maynard did, are the same people who have resisted changes to the rules. They fight to keep things the same as the 'good old days'. For the last 30 years or more, there's been a chorus of ex players calling the players of today soft. They can't stand the fact...
