Re: Phillipou Close to Signing
makes sense, RTB is persisting in certain roles for players to get that part of the game their forte, rather than try and then dump them .. he's been around long enough i reckon to see something in players that is worth nurturing . I see him as a midfielder in the Bont mold, but better overhead. Ow...

Re: Next week
Whoah! some harsh responses here.
I'd go:
Out for In
Butler (inj) - Collard
Bonner - Hastie
Jones - King
Byrnes - Hotton

Re: How Well Did We Do?
I feel we are getting ready for a big fish free agent next year, I wonder if it is B.King? I must admit Gold Coast’s first selection did pique my interest and cause me to muse over the question WHY and if it is an insurance policy? I wouldn't read too much into it. You take him, see how he goes, an...

Re: How Well Did We Do?
Fingers crossed but it feels like we’ve done alright the last 2 drafts. Feel like we’ve been assembling a decent core quietly over a few years We've done exceedingly well in the last 3 drafts. The NWM7 / Owens / Windy draft was the true start of the rebuild. We need one of Hotton or Van Es to kick ...

Re: INs & OUTs 20% Turnover
One of the things that’s looking to shift… and about time IMO, is endlessly holding on to players that for one reason or another, don’t ever really play. Impressions of Billings were mixed on this forum Likewise Bytel Coffield and Dmac were always injured The rest nowhere near it. Hopefully no more...

Re: Crystal ball Rnd 1 2024
Now trading is done ( pick swaps can still happen) i thought i would start the Rnd 1 best 22 discussion. I have used the following parameters to get to this: - expected natural improvement after another pre season - fit list (unlikely but can hope) - older guys early round may be a little behind ot...

Re: Damning Statistic
Richardson deserves appropriate blame, as does whoever appointed Scott Watters. But Pelican and Bains' plans for 3 top-20 picks over 3 consecutive years... executed by Tony Elshaugh... was a disaster. And I think primarily I blame recruitment Billings/Dunstan/Acres McCartin/Goddard Hugh/D-Mac Carlis...

Re: Gresham
And it is these little 5% gains you need to take, unless you finish bottom 4, to jump ahead.
Expecting 10-15% gains from Owens, Windhager, Philipou, Nasiah, pick 13, Henry vs Gresh, King, and then see how Keeler & Van Es progress.... we're on the right track.

Re: Gresham
Was great to have around when we had little other quality, for the spectacle, but in the end a terrible decision maker and poor ball-user far too often. If we even had to depart with 19 (21) for Henry, (which I hope we don't), this is an upgrade for us, at a lower cost.

Billings pick 12 and Gresham's compo pick Yep Billings, 12, 13 for Oliver and 3rd round pick to absorb Shiel's salary But we need to somehow get Henry too. Package Coff,Dmac,Ross to GC for a pick in the 20s for Henry. In: Shiel, Oliver, Henry Out: Gresh, Dmac, Ross, Billings Clayton is the inside +...

Re: Dylan Shiel
The key point to me is that Shiel has negative trade value. He is a cap dump trade like Bowes. It has nothing to do with the player and everything to do with salary cap. well there are some reports that Essendon would actually pay Shiel salary if he moved to St Kilda... or at least some if it So, I...

Re: Dylan Shiel
This is from SEN: Dylan Shiel (Essendon) & Jade Gresham (St Kilda) “The theory is, as reported in the Herald Sun yesterday, Essendon has an abundance of midfielders and Dylan Shiel turns 31 in March. “He’s coming off a 12-game season and coming into the last year of his contract on a decent wag...

What i don't fathom is at last years draft they told us this years draft was going to be a cracker, now they are telling us this years draft is lacking. Who are the idiots that rate the following years draft. Recruiting is a tough gig. That's true. I remember: 22 was heavy at the top, thin u...

Re: Phantom Draft
Would be ideal to somehow get our hands on pick 7 (easier said than done!) for an elite midfielder like Sanders and then use our pick 13 on getting an elite tall defender of which there seems to quite a few options. We don't need key defenders. We need midfielders. If we can't work our way up the d...

Re: List Changes official
Bytel and Adams too injury prone
Peris I don't see as good enough for the grade
Leo Conolly is the disappointment for me. Speedy, great kick, aggressive, and by all report Goddard worked hard turning him into a legit midfielder.
Bad decision.

Re: Post-match analysis

Re: Post-match analysis
One further point: what exactly was the strategy with Phillipou? What was his position? Wouldn't it have been much better for a young player's development to give him a specific position to play rather than a sort of general roving role? He seemed to get totally lost today. I didn’t hear you critic...

Re: We have hit rock bottom
After I’ve calmed down a bit over yesterdays loss. I don’t think we have hit rock bottom. We got 4x A-Graders in the making in NWM, King, Owens and Phillipou. More games we can get into them the better they will become. That’s a good nucleus we can build upon and push for finals in 2-3 years time. ...
