Re: Is Lyon mark 2 the right fit for the saints
Personally I am convinced that our footy team will not go backwards in 2023 - quite the opposite, they only need to win 2 more games than they did in 2022 to secure a spot in the top 8, my money is on them doing exactly that! If the club is serious about winning a premiership and not just trying to...

Re: Is Lyon mark 2 the right fit for the saints
Regardless not sure what those “hard hitting opinion pieces” prove The headline in the first article says it all ‘Chaos in the front office and a toxic culture at training: Why the Dockers had to sack Ross Lyon’ ….but what is equally as concerning as the toxic relationships between player and coach...

Re: Is Lyon mark 2 the right fit for the saints
The criticism and the reports in the media are from those who were at the club and who knew people who worked at the club The pressure mounted at Freo in 2019 because their results didn’t live up to expectations The evidence is factual history not revisionist cliched history and it’s based on Lyon’...

Re: Is Lyon mark 2 the right fit for the saints
The bigger picture is that fans want to see successful teams. There’s also pressure when you are in a city like Perth and you see your rivals winning a premiership in 2018. Freo were in a Grand final in 2013 and playing deep in September as late as 2015. After Freo started sliding down the ladder in...

Re: Is Lyon mark 2 the right fit for the saints
It’s easy to reminisce about all the good stuff and ignore the negatives. It’s like picking up a player with baggage isn’t it? You can’t ignore it. It never really disappears Here’s what Freo fans were saying four years into into their rebuild (Ross’s last year there) https://www.abc.net.au/news/201...

Re: Is Lyon mark 2 the right fit for the saints
Lyon mark 2 at the Saints will be relying on all the tried and trusted methods that he’s used in the past (as well as some copying of the brands from recent premiers) and he’ll be looking for inspiration from his assistants to try and get the best out of the talent on the list. Premierships are won ...

Re: Sydney Stack ?
The Stengle trade was a good chance of succeeding because he had people around him at Geelong FC who he respected and Tyson had worked with previously and who were his mentors Without the ‘connections’, it’s a high probability failure. Too high risk It can only work if Sydney Stack has strong relati...

Re: Sydney Stack ?
The culture aspect is something Caroline Wilson worries about. All his team mates will want is for him to do his job on the footy field. If we throw him straight into the midfield that would be interesting wouldn’t it. Does Stack have the tank and does he have the discipline to perform in the senior...

Re: Sydney Stack ?
Stack is a genuine utility player, can play in all 3 parts of the ground, strong, tough and skilled.. yes a bit of a risk off field but we’ve been a passive team for too long..need some grunt! We aren’t in the hunt for a flag in 2023 so I’d prefer to get games into our young draftees. If Richmond d...

Jack Steele is my favourite current player
Would have to rate Neil Elvis Winmar as my all time favourite
Robert Harvey, Lenny Hayes and Nick Riewoldt very close behind

Re: Brad Hill to play on the wing
Wouldn’t be surprised if JB spends more time in the magoos. If Hill has a really bad game and if Ross the Boss is looking for scapegoats, don’t discount Hill getting dropped too
Wouldn’t be surprised if RTB is calling for drastic list changes at the end of his first year

Re: Brad Hill to play on the wing
Wood and DMac seem to be the fittest and hardest running pair , who are committed to running and defending as well as attack. NWM and Hill have very little defensive game and get shown up in the D50 , but are very good at delivering in F50. Can we use all 4 in the same side? Good points raised. If ...

Re: Assistant coach All Australian tally
All five were definitely mentored and ‘influenced’ by Lethal.
Three current coaches were definitely mentored and ‘influenced‘ by Choco Williams at Port. They are Kingsley, Dew and Hardwick
Three were definitely mentored and ‘influenced‘ by Dennis Pagan too and they are Simmons, Longmire and Clarkson

Re: What Will RL Do Now That He's Our Coach Again?
Remember the bs from Carro and the media after the timid coward captain from Carlton complained about Jake Carlisle? Finnis and Richo buckled after that Marc Murphy incident and I think our players were confused and felt like they were doing whatever it takes both physically and psychologically to w...

Re: What Will RL Do Now That He's Our Coach Again?
Not sure if this should be here in this thread but I hope Ross can push our captain and our leaders to demand more of each other, and to inspire each other when they need it. I recently watched the game we played against Brisbane at home in round 22 this year when we were still a chance to make fina...

Re: The Review .
Not selling home games, thank God no game in Cairns this year in 88% humidity. What next? Are we going to complain about playing games in Brisbane or playing games in Perth? People have really short memories. Our coaches and players had an issue with going to Tasmania. We watched other teams take t...

Re: The Review .
I was talking about the term "though a football lens" exactly what does that mean Perhaps the club don’t want players involved in more meetings and more information sessions or media interviews when they should be focussing on winning games of footy. I think that the Saints are not saying...

Re: Would Lyon have let the Aussie cricket team wash out…?
After he saves the St Kilda FC and after we make multiple grand finals and after he saves the Australian T20 team and 1 day squads and the test team, he’ll save the Wallabies…. His challenge after all that will be to get the Australian Soccer team into the last 8 in the World Cup…that’s all before h...

Re: Goddard's Back???
… it's great to see RL has now surrounded himself with YES men. How many assistant coaches under his tutelage have gone on to be senior coaches in the AFL? Any? Maybe he does basically want YES men  How do you know they're "YES men"? Maybe he's bringing in people that challenged his...

Re: Nick Coffield is…
I’m not sold on Coffield Hesitates Lyon won't tolerate hesitation. If that’s the case, then it’s odds on that Nick and JB and Hilly and maybe even Seb Ross will be among the first players to be dropped. They have to change the way they both defend…. and also the way they attack the footy from this ...
