Re: St Kilda to kick on
I like Jay Clark No idea who wrote this/edited this, especially at this time of year. But probably makes no diff. Or perhaps it was written in November and canned for future release? lol Good points about article 1) He notes that Pou must be super talent and that his out put for the second half of t...

Re: Annual General Meeting set for 18th of Dec
Mnn Perhaps St Kilda and Melbourne will end up as anomalies. And Hawthorn? Having no reserves teams. I can’t help but accept the notion that in general, there is a clear drift towards reinstating the ressies at most clubs over the past decade. And so I assume there are advantages. Geelong, being iso...

Re: Annual General Meeting set for 18th of Dec
As an addendum about the source of money, We didn't here (forgot to?) acknowledge government grants and pledges to the AFL and clubs. From Federal, State and Local governments, the AFL receives a sh*t load of tax-payers, rate-payers money. And before elections, these ramp up. There are also pledges...

Re: A moderation discussion - opinions sought
When I arrived here, the migration to BF had already well and truly happened. And the poor regard they had over there for the vibe here was pretty evident. I have noticed things improving. There are still one or two posters that concentrate on playing the man/woman rather than the issue. And that is...

It's interesting to see a Sydney Paper's take on the AFL vs NRL funding, https://www.smh.com.au/sport/soccer/half-the-players-twice-the-funding-afl-s-financial-win-over-football-20190507-p51kzn.html Here's a story about leaving Seaford and the Frankston council's take on it https://www.smh.com.au/sp...

Re: Will Jack Higgins go up a level?
2021 - 27 goals 2022 - 30 goals +10% 2023 - 36 goals + 20% 2024 - 48 goals + 30% I'd be impressed if he can continue his current projection. Like to see his conversion of opportunities %. Seems a bit wasteful to me, just observing, and his opponents get plenty of clearances. But this could be my bi...

Re: Will Jack Higgins go up a level?
36 goals during 2023 is more than both Bobby Hill, Lachie Shultz, Michael Walters, and our own Dan Butler, who all kicked 33 goals. This compares favorably to Kysaiah Pickett (37), Tom Papley (37), and Izan Rankine (36). Jack appears to be a bit of a one-trick pony. He needs to find another string ...

Here’s a story of the Pittsburg Steelers in NFL
Basically, as stated here. Talent and athleticism first. Damn the rest.Nevermind what the team needs.

Re: Trading: Best Available vs ‘Team Needs’
I think you draft for best available once you have set your attribute weighting. For example we might consider ranking based on the following desired traits. Speed 10 Foot skills 8 Height 5 Tenacity 8 Hand skills 6 Tackling 6 And make sure you don't take too many of the same kind who would be compe...

Re: Trading: Best Available vs ‘Team Needs’
Never really looked that happy about it though, I must say. And as a biased fan, I don't think many ex-St Kilda players of the era that encompassed GT through RL would be different. Goddard in tears. And it goes on. At least in my imagination. Grant Thomas was/is special for St Kilda. As was/ is? R...

Re: Trading: Best Available vs ‘Team Needs’
Mnnn Wonder why we got Liam Stocker last year? It seems that it was a case of a medium to good player who was available, rather than a need to fill a hole as it were. We already had Paton, Byrnes, Hill, Sinclair, Coffield (at the time), Highmore (at the time) . Sure he has the aggression thing too, ...

Trading: Best Available vs ‘Team Needs’
What do you reckon..? I saw this on Melbourne fan forum. (Was trying to find JB comments) Poster One responded to a quote, and it is supposed to highlight the ‘folly’ of pursuing role players based on ‘team needs’ Quote “but that's dangerous territory. Drafting needs over best available. It's why th...

Re: Dan Butler Ankle Setback
Would Dan Butler be our most experienced finals player? 6 finals! 2017 with Richmaond , QF, PF, GF! ‘20 with us, EF, SF ‘23 EF Well he wasn’t really switched on this year in the EF. Dismal kicking for goal. Something was off. I guess experience is no guarantee you can bring out your best. Just human...

I get the impression that more Mason Cox types- tall lanky types who pinch it as forwards and as rucks will be added to teams too. So I think height and reach is definitely needed down back

Some excellent points made on this thread in the last batch at least… Good stuff Think positively Create ideas Ask questions Don’t be put off by the knockers who tell, ‘you’ what ‘you’ need to do. ... There was a level of dysfunction there in movement and maybe forward structure once we had the ball north of centre. It's a tempting thesis isn't it... Between the 17th June and the 6th of August, Max played in five games. We lost four, dismally. And we won one, by 8 points, against a diabolica...

We should be thankful for Gillon McLaughlin's leadership. That swine Demetriou would have continued to screw us over For the struggling clubs, Wayne Jackson was the worst. He approved the Footscray/Fitzroy merger, the Hawthorn-Melbourne merger, and ultimately the Brisbane-Fitzroy merger. He oversaw...

Respectfully, are you lot pretending we didn’t just receive 156millon bucks from 2012-21?? You are talking as if it doesn’t happen. Like St Kilda is in a vacuum? So what about a ten million debt? What does it mean? Soft cap? Fiscal discipline? I agree St Kilda needs money but increasingly we are a b...

If I understood the report correctly our debt has reduced from $9,990,504 to $8,489,324. FFS $8,489,324 Can you please put that into context with this statement. St Kilda has received $156 million dollars in AFL funding in the ten years between 2012-2021! Collingwood ?? ZERO! So we receive approxim...
