Re: Petracca and Bont
Hawthorn made a few blunders You missed Elstone, Muston, maybe Ladson too… Having said that, those players were expected to go there in the draft and were predictable selections. But they got a few right too, more importantly Hodge, Mitchell, Roughead, Franklin, Lewis, Birchall, Rioli and so on… Th...

Re: Billings and Ryder re-sign
Yes good news.
JB is a loyal saint. Seems public knowledge that he will be on significantly less than his last contract.
A real professional and sets good standards.
Lets hope his best footy is in front of him because at his best he is a very good player.

would expect us to pick up another ready made tall defender, having discarded Carlisle and Clav.
I assume they have someone in mind

Best two players in the comp right now and Melbourne and Bulldogs the best two teams by some way IMO, despite the Bulldogs few weeks of wobbles at the end of home and away.

Re: Petracca
Yes it was the worst recruiting decision in history, because it is not a case of "hindsight heroes". Everyone was saying it at the time, and anyone could see it. Petracca monstered the TAC cup *as an underager* as a forward, then mostered it as a midfielder in his draft year. He was the mo...

Re: Hannebury takes a pay cut
ISkeptic, I wonder if he was picked on merit for those last two games..but then the soup has many a varied pea swimming in it. really we had barely any fit players. And to be honest, he was travelling a bit better than Connelly if you want to talk merit... one could argue that Connolly has shown pr...

Sam Skinner apparently tearing it up at SANFL level since moving to CHB.
I think there are a couple of others at state level doing ok as well.
Would not be the first KPD to get plucked from state leagues and do well. KPDs seem to develop a little later than others.

Port have a lot of key outs. Their injuries are worse than ours: Gray, Butters, Rozee, Duursma, Fantasia That is 5 clear best 22 and indeed 5 very very good players out. If we bring attitude, we should be too strong for their depleted line up. Gresham Paton Higgins Hannaberry Clark Coffield Not a b...

Great work Tom Highmore to get 4 votes from one coach and 3 from the other.

Those two alone have most teams (including us) covered.

Re: Michito Owens...saints go marching!
Owens really seems to be progressing very well.
Windhager also played but seems he was quiet.
But two good academy prospects who will likely fall in a good range, i.e. outside the top 20.
Although Owens may be moving up draft boards!

Re: Nathan Freeman
We DON'T NEED another mid. Need a ruck back-up quick smart. Roma is having plantar fascia issues, and it's not good to push him too hard until it's resolved. Remember Luke Ball and osteitis pubis? Ryder isn't young, we don't know how long he has left. The Paul Hunter/Shaun McKernan experiment hasn'...

Re: Match Thread Saints v Suns Round 8 2021
I dont think it was lucky. We were the better team for the last 3 quarters. GC got 3 in a row in the 3rd but that was a pretty good little run from the umpires for all 3... we were the better team clearly overalltherabbitinthehat wrote: ↑Sat 08 May 2021 5:16pm nice of the boys to show some grit, but a lucky win

Didnt we pick him for his "great character"
Now he playing reserves grade footy and is punching people behind play?
Yes. Great work Trout.
Will get 6.

Re: The decision to pick McCartin.
has there ever been a worse and more blatant drafting error in AFL draft history? I would argue there has not. Some picks are just hindsight errors. This was not. Petracca was everyones pick as the best player by miles that year and it is no surprise that he is now a superstar. Trout said 3 times &q...

N0 thanks. Billings is only underrated on this forum, but not by the club. Last year he was second in disposals behind Steele. first in the number of kicks, 5th in marks taken, 2nd in the number of handballs given off, 4th in contested possessions, 1st in uncontested possessions, 3rd in score assis...

IMHO, Hill is not going well in terms of output/dollar paid. But team selection is based on output not output per dollar. On that ground, I would have quite a few below Hill in each of the last 2 weeks. Clearly his kicking was down but he was working pretty hard to get to positions and to play the r...

Re: Rod Owen
Two things. First, Rod Owen was a potential good player but no Royce Hart, as suggested in the article. Owen was too short for a key position in the 80s being the same height as Robert Harvey and too slow to be a flanker being a slow turner and average on the ground. He was not two sided. He could ...
