Re: Congested & Less Interesting

Could investigate ways to increase scoring which usually makes games more open and interesting - e.g. use 'points for' instead of percentage for ladder position; award bonus points for teams winning with a score of higher than 15 or 20 goals so it is possible to receive 5 or 6 points for a win inste...

Andrew Lovett playing in Mildura

Some news from the back page of my morning paper. Thought it might be of interest to some. Guess I'll get to see him play first hand, just not for the Saints.

Re: changes for next week

Personally would try rucking Stanley full time and give Longer a rest. Longer battles hard and wins the hitouts, but doesn't get the ball around the ground. Bring in Lee as a forward. Stanley as a forward is not working, and Longer is not hurting the opposition.

Re: #1 objective for new ceo and pres

Get out of Seaford (nothing against the suburb, but need a higher profile, closer to the city). Other than that my brief would be for an intense membership drive similar to what the Hawks and Cats were doing more than 10 years ago and haven't let the foot off the pedal since. Demand the senior coac...

Re: One positive of today..

Didn't mind Stanley as a defender but wasn't hurting teams. Can be more damaging as a forward. Was worth an extended run at full back but agree should go forward again. Hickey was recruited because we didn't have any backup rucks last year and we went back to Blake rucking at one stage which wasn't ...

Re: Was Roo knocked out by a late hit??

Saw the replay on TV of Roo getting knocked out and it looked pretty clearly like a clash of heads in the contest. The mistake was that Roo had the ball in his hands when the clash occurred and the ball ended up in the defender's hand who claimed, and was wrongly paid, the mark by the umpire. Didn't...

Agree that this guy can seriously play footy. A real positive from the season so far, and something to look forward to moving forward. Well done saints.

Re: Expectations for 2013 Season

I'm going for higher than last year. We have addressed a few long term weaknesses - ruckmen (that's plural, and not just Blakey), more forward options than kick it to Nick (Wilkes, Lee, Sipposs etc are those third talls we have been after for a while - Charlie Gardiner anyone?), some draft picks tha...

Re: Cooda been Saints

Interesting post. Not sure the change has to do with management but moreso the draft and salary cap. For a while there, we just couldn't compete with the Carltons and Collingwoods because they could attract and pay the best footballers in Australia - Bradley, Kernahan, Hunter etc. etc. and we just d...

Re: To FB or not to FB

Barry Hall was inspirational as a Fullback.????

Thought Barry Hall was great as a forward and wished he'd have stayed at Saints. Don't remember him much as a full back, but thought I read somewhere that he hated playing full back and had nightmares about it. Tim Watson had no idea as coach.

Re: Stanley knee injury

Shame about the injury, but think it was a real positive that he was played down back from the start of a game. I liked what I saw and, nothing against others, but it was good having someone down back with the height and reach to match it with the tall forwards.

Re: Options down back

Think Stanley would do well down back for reasons people have suggested, but as a ruck/forward he potentially presents real headaches for the opposition in terms of matching up. If he can string consistent games together injury-wise, I see him as a real weapon that other teams have to worry about. W...

Pretty sure Val Perovic was right foot. Just checked on youtube - watched a 'life after footy' segment with some footage of Val Perovic at Carlton. Didn't show much but marked and kicked with his right.

Re: Hi Saintsational......again. Its been a long time!

Hello Thommo Enjoyed watching you play when I was a kid. Thought you were a pretty decent CHB. Saints could use someone like you right now. Any chance? P.S. Was sorry to see you go as coach. Thought the club got it wrong leaving Moorabbin, but also in changing coaches. Would have had you there still...

Re: Saints re-engage Moorabbin

Here's my prediction. Seaford will be sold soon to some rich private school for a new campus or playing fields. The move from Moorabbin will be admitted as a poor decision by a previous administration and council. Saints will get money from the state government, AFL and Kingston council to completel...

Re: How do you think Riewoldt will go in 2013?

Still reckon there's another chapter or two in the Nick Riewoldt story yet. He is far from done. Could still play out of the goalsquare effectively for a few more years yet and hope he does. I can only remember one game where he played effectively from a deep forward position, and that was the game...

Nick Riewoldt on one leg is still better than most. While he is still playing with us, I feel we are always in with a chance. Hope he keeps going for a few more years. He is an absolute gun.

Re: Share your bizarre/offbeat Saints moments.

Went to a Saints game at Moorabbin in the early eighties and there were so few people at the game we actually sat down on the terraces in the outer to watch the game, when every other game before that we had to stand up to watch. Not sure, but I reckon it might have been the same game where Milan Fa...

Re: Share your bizarre/offbeat Saints moments.

Can't remember exactly what year it was, but went to a game at Waverley with my dad who was a Swans supporter. Suddenly playing for us that day were Paul Morwood and Silvio Foschini who had just transferred from the Swans to the Saints mid season through some loophole we found or something.
