Re: Hutchings & Cripps

Strange that Hutchings only had 1 year on the Saints rookie list. Usually most players get 2 or even 3 like most our current rookies. Did he get delisted because he wanted to go home or just wasn't good enough. From what I remember wasn't he the WA's U/18 champ captain? So obviously he had some qua...

Re: Hutchings & Cripps

Two players previously on our list. Yeah it was all Lyon's fault. He must be responsible for Cahill, Heyne, Winmar, Walsh, Archer and the lack of development in Siposs, Stanley three years on. Why do these threads come on after the fact and lay blame where it shouldn't. Didn't see one when he was d...

Re: Siposs - Any chance he's going to make it?

I reckon they are trying to turn him into a mid sized forward based on those VFL reports...could he be a Gunsten type? Yep But Dunston = 193cm In 2012 he kicked 39 goals as a 20yo. Clearly Sippa is a very very talented player (calling him a 'dud' is just totally ridiculous) but where does he fit in...

Re: Hickey or McEvoy

I think I have said it before but if not - why do these unsuccessful clubs continually want our crap players like Ball & Ben? Very good point. I would add Lynch to that also. I know people on this site still don't rate Tom, even though he has kicked ten in a game and lead Adelaide's goal kickin...

Re: The Frost Brothers?

Out recruiting completely stunk beyween 2005 and 2011. No two ways about it. Under resourced and John Beveridge was past it and was off the pace and that Peake guy was either clueless or a Geelong double agent. He was not Stephen Wells. Since Elshaugh came on board ive been bloody happy. Spot on. L...

Re: The good, the bad and the future!

Lost is not necessary a term I would use but I would say several were starved of opportunities. I believe Lynch ended up being traded due to the fact he had limited games. Steven had played less than ten games under Ross's reign as he preferred a player like Eddy. Who I think for memory played aroun...

Re: The good, the bad and the future!

I'm saying perhaps we didn't recruit so badly we didn't retain them. Under Lyon there were a few dispirited players jaded by lack of opportunity I feel.[/quote] Interesting that you say that because supporters, media and Scott Watters would disagree. The facts are, right now, the drafting of the 07 ...

Re: The good, the bad and the future!

If we had Hutchings, Cripps and Lynch who will all likely make it at other clubs- the first two both in WCEs bests the other night they might have helped the recruiting look better. If they do make it at their respective clubs, whose fault is that? The St Kilda recruiters for not realizing they wou...

Re: Saints gaining RESPECT due to Bains and Pelchen

I have more confidence in elsgaugh to use the picks wisely than Peake. He's done well so far but this year will be critical. The ONLY way he could do worse than Peake would be if he read MY name out for #3 on Draft Day. And NO, I'm NOT a Half Back Flanker !! Elshaugh my be the best recruiter of all...

Re: Our last ten years' pre-season draft picks.

You have to count rookies. They are drafted like any other player. Well if that is the case, then I am of the opinion, the 08 draft was not a disaster. Potentially four players, that's a pretty good return. One of the hard parts in evaluating drafts is it can takes year to do it accurately. I belie...

Re: Our last ten years' pre-season draft picks.

Tim Lynch fail? Why. If he becomes a good player, which I think he is on track to become, is that the recruiters fault or coaches at the club who evaluated him incorrectly.
Regards 2008 do we take into account rookies, Simpkin and Dawson?

Re: Michael Barlow and our recruitment

Well lets just say that Lynch was not right for StKilda and Ross Lyon's game plan. My general point about that draft is that it was loaded with talent and you didn't need to be a drafting genius to get someone useful. Most teams came away from that draft with a couple of handy players. We've just g...

Brad Howard! Everyone had done their phantom drafts and picked their top 20's. Howard wasn't even in the list. No-one had heard of him. No-one! Players we could have got with the Howard pick included: Chris Dawes, Eric Mackenzie, Ricky Petterd, Kurt Tippett, Alwyn Davey, Todd Goldstein. 2008, a dra...

Re: Lets Be Honest! Its the coaching.

Lynch was named in most of the phantom drafts at the time , but maybe we took him a bit early. He certainly wasn't the best draft choice. Good. "Phew" for a moment there I thought you were saying Lynch was a good pick. You're right if the Phantom drafts mentioned him as a late pick and we ...

6. Pathetic drafting during the Lyon years Was Lynch a good pick at 13? I'll have a go at answering my own question, seeing it hasn't raised much response. The answer is, no. The reason Lynch was a poor pick is to keep the above statement true. If the answer is yes then the 08 draft period has four...

I can't understand all this carry on about Lynch. My understanding is, the general opinion was Lynch was no good, and let's get what we can for him. Even when he kicked ten everyone was going on about against who? Won't last etc. Now, we seem to have changed our opinion?? Question, drafting him at t...

Re: Pick 3 in next years draft: locked in

Interesting comment from Watters at last night's presser. Apparently we have had the least number of top 20 picks of any club over the past decade. It'd funny but I've never thought of it in those terms, but it's certainly a disadvantage when trying to maintain a strong list from on top of the ladd...

Just quickly, re 2009 - 2010. There were definitely people on here who were calling out for youngsters to get a run and to be developed. I do acknowledge that injuries impacted on lyon's ability to give more kids a game but he seemed to think, and the prevailing mantra on here was '..don't flirt wi...

Well unless we change the coach whats the point of keeping him because it seems thiss coach doesnt think they are up to it. Re: Curren looks good

Is Curren the new Tommy Walsh at St.Kilda???? BTW deserves a go in the seniors. It seems he deserves a go but for some reason if they dont then I hope they dont keep him next year. the same with ledger. I reckon 3 years on the list for a mid is enough if you are playing. Harsh on the kids but if th...
