Re: Anyone think we possibly could..?
We're at full strength at the right time. And full strength this year trumps whatever we've had last year or when we last made finals, with the natural improvement and progression of talented young players, and the addition of Stocker. Dream on, I say. The real challenge is to keep recruiting our wa...

Re: Ross Lyon Haters???
We're a fair bit better than last year. Windhager, NWM, Owens have benefited from another preason and more games. Phillipou will improve further next year. Stocker has been a good addition. We need to keep recruiting and drafting well. We saw tonight what happens when the wheel of fortune turns ... ...

Re: Reality
The reality is, we have improved over last year, we have more depth with our developing and maturing youngsters tracking well, and we're probably only one decent midfielder (with outside run and skill) away from being a top side. If Ross is fit, he will give us the extra outside run that we need - h...

Whoever believes In legendary coaches is myths-taken.
But, re: Recruiters, who we don't talk about enough ... I don't think there are enough superlatives to ascribe to the good ones. They make the difference.

Re: Do we need to extend Lyons contract now?
So, the man of Steele is soft and Crouch is soft, and the senior core have been Richoe’d and Rattenfied and become nice, soft cuddly guys, with no resilience when a side stands up to them …no leader who says “stuff this, I’ll show the way." It's all the past coaches' fault. You're happy to blam...

And what was Steele and Crouch getting zero possessions in the last quarter about? The G Train Legacy wrote: ↑Tue 08 Aug 2023 12:17pm
Owens out of the centre was more about putting Sinclair into the centre.
Are we going to blame previous coaches for that?

Re: Do we need to extend Lyons contract now?
Still, Crouch and Steele getting zero possessions in the last quarter. And why was Owens moved out of the centre when he was doing well? We have more depth now with Owens, NWM and Windhager maturing - and even with Byrnes benefitting from another pre-season. Our injury list is shrinking. Stocker has...

Re: Do we need to extend Lyons contract now?
Weitering took 10 marks and controlled the air, and they were missing McGovern. When we needed Steele and Crouch to stand up, in an important 8 point game, they "crouched" in the last quarter. Zero possessions from both. That's unprecedented. More a case of being Rossified ... or ossified ...

Re: Do we need to extend Lyons contract now?
We do need to go to the draft to improve our midfield further, but we are strong in other areas ... vs Carlton, all Crouch and Steele needed to do was to get their 6-10 usual possessions each in the last quarter. 0 possessions each??? Is that what they were delivering under "cuddly" Ratten...

Re: Reality
Or maybe Voss the real boss gave a stirring half-time address and continued inspiring and encouraging his team from the boundary line/interchange bench, and remained standing and vocal, transferring that energy to his players, while Ross was sitting down comfortably and cosily in the coach's box? Ma...

Re: My parting words, RTB is a myth!
We're giving coaches too much importance. There's form lines, niggles/injury clouds, match-ups, momentum swings, purple patches (Carlton is having one at the moment). Coaches are left just as dumbfounded as we are. There are no mythical coaches or magic formulas - it's AFL coach vs AFL coach. None a...

Re: My parting words, RTB is a myth!
Looking at some of the centre bounces, and stoppages around the ground, I really thought that our setups or structures were all wrong- players standing where they had no hope of getting a loose ball, no players outside on a spread to receive, too many standing close together and losing their direct...

Re: My parting words, RTB is a myth!
Steele was a liability - a defensive mid, reacts often with a tackle AFTER his opponent wins the footy Unlike say Cripps who can generate/make the play There is your difference Not system Cattle. Exactly. Our dairy farm has been under-producing for many years now, and it's because our underachievin...

Re: King comparisons
Wrong comparators. Compare Max to Tim Membrey. No comparison at all really, is it. No point in comparing with ace forwards that will never play for us. And trying to follow some of the other logic, Charlie Curnow would make a good defender, but it would be silly to have a once in a generation forwa...

Re: King comparisons
2 goals and 10 kicks on average is what we're getting from Max King vs potentially 25 kicks, 8 intercept marks and 10 important spoils? Roberton was averaging around 24 possessions and 500 metres gained before his health issue ... what would King be capable of?? Pick 49 vs pick 4. Is it a year of ex...

Re: King comparisons
Given that we kicked 19 goals yesterday without King - and our forward line seemed to function a lot better (we were forced to lower our eyes entering the F50 and stopped bombing it in haphazardly), should we be looking at King as an intercepting tall defender? At pick 49, Dylan Roberton became a gr...

Re: Another win with an injury depleted side
Our young players are maturing and picking up any slack due to injury.
They are gaining in match experience and have benefited from another preseason.
We have more depth than last year, in effect.

Re: We have hit rock bottom
Stocker and Caminiti. These are SOS's first (and I think only) recruits so far and RTB has played them every game (minus Caminiti's suspension). No issue with Stocker. He's been a handy replacement for Long. Not great, but certainly worthy of his spot. Caminiti however hasn't warranted automatic se...

Re: Covering Injuries
I'd play Heath at FF. He just has to kick a goal or two per match until King returns. He's younger than King (more than 2 years younger ) - there's potential there. How many was King kicking? And when King returns, I think he'd (i.e. King'd) be more value at half back - we need a tall player who can...

Re: Changing coaches has been a failure, IMHFO.
If something goes awry, it's always the coach's fault at St Kilda. This is the constant you can rely on. And, we keep upgrading them, so that we have the best going around at all times. (Richo was also an upgrade on the previous coach who was an upgrade on the one prior, and so on and so forth, ad i...
