Re: Leadership group
That 'system' was obviously born under Grant Thomas. Great leadership is empowering individuals to become leaders themselves Grant gave trust and confidence and guidance. He mentored our young recruits. This is a great take, and I have a few things I'd like to unpack in response to it. 1. Success o...

Re: Bassat has a lot to answer for
Snap decisions to throw magnets around doesn't help build a team. Each week we should try one thing and assess it. Stick with that change for a few weeks. Change too many things at once and you don't know which one actually made the impact. It's the same with 'playing the kids'. You can't play too m...

Re: Leadership group
If we rely on the coaches for everything on game day, we will go nowhere.
Clearly there are some gaps here especially around our ability to close out tight ones.
No wonder Ross is complaining about the number of runner messages.
Teach, empower, engage the playing group.

For a MSD pick you're bringing in a role player to fill an immediate need. Not necessarily drafting for the long term future.

Re: Leadership group
We've been void of AFL-standard leadership since Riewoldt retired. And why was Riewoldt a good leader? Because he was developed under a system that understood what leadership really meant. Who do we have? 1- Steele - Capt 2 - Wilkie- VC 3 - Sinclair 4 - Ross 5 - Marshall How many of those actually ...

Re: Leadership group
Steele has gotten away for a very long time with being the captain by being a good player and leading by example.
Now it's clear we need different on field leadership - of the old captain-coach style.

Re: Robbing Peter to pay Paul?
We are clearly not here to win games, we are trying to develop a premiership side.
Sincs in the middle and rotate juniors through half back is a better option than leaving him back there.

We have enough emerging HBF's to release Sincs to the midfield. If not for the current side, then for our future side. Today's HBF is tomorrow's midfielder. If there's a steady stream of players through that role on the way to a permanent midfield role we will improve over time. Sinclair much more ...

RL would love to be utilising machines with limitless power and endurance, but unfortunately he's going to have to coach humans. You know...rely on his communication, patience, empathy, and conflict resolution. Mentoring skills and helping people develop as leaders. A good assessment. Where Ross ha...

Re: Phillipou
Don't know about the fast tracking. Contrary to what many may say, he earned his spot last year. Then he had a spot this year based on last year (same as Sharman), which he held for longer because of injuries. He'll now no doubt spend a few weeks at Sandy. He earned somewhere between 18 and 20 game...

Re: Salem yet another
On Collard, sometimes giving them a taste at the pace early can motivate to improve long term. Playing every week at VFL and thinking you don't need to improve can slow his development. So now, even if he plays well and kicks a few every week, we can keep him interested in improving at VFL level bec...

Re: Bassat has a lot to answer for
Where would you all feel if the seasons were reversed?
If last year we finished bottom 4 (as expected) and this year were in the top 4 at the bye.
I'd be a hell of a lot more comfortable with that.
Going backwards this year has hurt, a lot.

Re: Bassat has a lot to answer for
I think Bassat thought his job was done once he appointed Ross and handed him the keys.
I hope he realises the work has just begun.
I'm not ready to jump off the Lyon/Bassat train just yet but need to start to see some adjustment.

Lyon can't simultaneously be a great coach and a poor one at the same time.
My read is that Lyon is good but his assistants are poor.

Re: Saints linked to Max Hill
The Saints had been linked to Old Brighton defender Max Benier, who was added to Sandringham’s list this month and played two VFL games. But he was squeezed out of Sandringham’s team and returned to OB last Saturday, an omission that left him one game short of draft eligibility. So if we were truly...

Re: RTB's Presser today
The big mistake people make around "play the kids" is that just having them in the side will cause them to develop. In reality it's got to be a part of the broader player development strategy. You don't make CEO's by pulling someone straight out of high school based on their test scores, a...

I'm ready to call myself out on this and admit defeat now.
Not sure if any of the journos above could have predicted the magnitude of the slide and the pressure heaped on us as a result.
Squiggle now has us 15th on 8 wins and a 3% chance of making the 8.

Re: RTB's Presser today
He certainly doesn’t look happy in the coach’s box, but he’s got another two seasons after this one to turn it around. Let’s hope he is up for the fight. I’m all for getting games into kids - where deserved - but I reckon he’s got to start insisting on playing our best possible side for the rest of...

Re: RTB's Presser today
He’s lost the players. It shows. Sincs was interviewed by Saints TV on youtube. He looked stunned, just trotted out the same empty phrases that we've heard before. Steele said the same thing after Doggies game. Sincs repeated himself twice as if to reinforce in his own mind, as he has lost the plot...
