Re: 8 more years of Max King
I don't have an issue with Max, and I hope he does kick 60 a year and win a few Coleman medals. We only know the length of the contract, so from the two options: If it's high value, we have overcommitted to a player who hasn't proven himself to be worthy of a high value, high length contract which i...

I reckon if Seb Ross played for another club and was delisted, we'd pick him up.

Re: 8 more years of Max King
Surely the decision to extend is a gamble to get him at current value and not after 2 years of 60+ goals and a Coleman. It tells me Max isn't confident in himself if he's signing now. He definitely been valued on ‘potential’ and not actual returns, so I would say it’s a very good deal for him. Then...

Re: 8 more years of Max King
How about addressing the rest of my reply, where I give examples of well paid players who took long deals on good money but not enough to break their teams wage structure. All from good clubs with good lists that have a depth of quality that allows them to compete. None of those guys signed a contr...

Re: Finn Callaghan
I find the whole thing tiresome now, all because it's been hijacked by the media who, in the lead up to the actual event, just make crap up in order to give themselves press time. Agree there's no point speculating or giving it any thought. Just wait for the results and focus on other stuff for a w...

As long as we don't pay overs for him, we will be alright. We let them have Coffield last year for nothing so we have favours owed.

Re: Trust in your players
Does that mean no drafting or trading, ever?
That's the worst strategy I've ever heard.
List management is all about analysing strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities to bring talent in to improve the selected team, but also the club.

Re: Jack McCrae
I believe we have a long term cap space strategy and a big hole in the next 2-3 years before our younger players start commanding higher wages.
It needs to be filled as we have to spend a percentage of the cap (90% or 95%??).

Re: Trust in your players
If we think he can bring something to the team from a playing and leadership perspective, we should. The points made around his effect on the team are important. You want to make sure that he can have a lasting positive impact on the group. You don't pick a player like this for a finals tilt from 12...

I think we might have won a final if we scraped in, but don't think we'd go beyond that.
Brisbane, Geelong, Sydney and GWS all well ahead of us.

Re: Season 2024 in Review
"not out of our depth" and "premiership contender" is not the same thing.
I think we have done the right thing to set us up for 2025. With a leaner fixture, some draft picks, and continued development.

I thought there was a rule around assistant coaches where they needed to know before seasons end if they were being renewed to allow them to explore other options.

Re: IF pick #8 do we trade or draft? For who?
There are only very few players I'd trade pick 8 for, and there's no way those clubs would let them go.
The only trade I see us doing is either turning 7 & 8 into a top 3 pick, or splitting one into 14 & 15.

Leadership needs to come from the playing group. The coaching group needs to enable that.
I think the reverence that Ross Lyon has is getting in the way of that.

Re: Wood and Butler re-signed
One of the reasons the club brought Ross Lyon back in late 2022 was to develop a strong culture of success, which the coach has reiterated quite a few times in the past two years and appears to be progressing well. Mason Wood's value is recognised not just for his outstanding form in 23/24, but als...
