Re: Selection over the next couple weeks
King, Jones, Hayes, Paton, Campbell, Dow, Hastie, Collard, Webster, Arie all possibles, but Lyon doesn't take risks which is why his teams don't win premierships. Don't expect many changes.

Re: Higgins Alir incident
I'm sick of the tokenism of gender equality. That's what happens when you put a woman in charge of a man's game. You play AFL you are likely to get concussed. Laura Keene, you look like a nice lady but AFL is not for you. So you would think a woman is ok if Higgins got off? If it was just all bloke...

Re: The Jimmy Situation
I see Webster as a tough nut, but yet another Saints serviceable player without being a game changer. I would like Paton in as much as Webster who needs to show a bit at Sandy first.

Put Boris in charge period- Bassat should have done it instead of dragging an ex-coach out of retirement.meher baba wrote: ↑Tue 30 Apr 2024 12:44pm A lot of the problem is in the forward line. That’s a problem area in general. I say put Boris in charge of it.

Re: No Pressure
I have noticed the lack of pressure on the opposition ball carriers has been a bit ordinary in many matches -very bad against the Dogs, and not good against the Cats and Bombers. We can set up ok when we have the ball, but the poor defensive work of the mids and forwards is making it a lost cause at...

Re: Marshall
Xerri is a good player but any doubt i think Marshall gets a week rest and bring in Campbell. Assuming King comes in for Sharman, then perhaps make a call between Cama and Hayes playing as a forward and back up ruck I think rucks are the least of our worries, and Marshall should be rested against N...

Re: Footy Fix: Ross Lyon is the AFL's most boring coach once again - and it's suffocating the Saints' season
The opposition coaches have worked Lyon's game out after one and a bit seasons. Similar in a way to 2011 where the strengths of the game plan of 2009/2010 were picked apart by the opposition. Yesterday's man I'm afraid as I feared when they appointed him as coach again. You have it the wrong way ar...

Re: Higgins Alir incident
I would suggest that if the Saints took it to court, the suspension would be thrown out and the AFL cautioned for wasting the court's time.

Steele and Ross need a rocket at half time- just jogging and not hitting the contest hard enough around stoppages.

Re: Match Thread Saints v Port Round 7 2024
Lyon needs to get rid if the play on at all costs game, we're too slow to do it, and start getting the team to play man on man footy. Out-coached again so far. Pou looks like a schoolboy when the ball is in contests and Membrey and Sharman make the forward half too slow. Sub Dougal and put Sharman d...

Re: Coming back
Looking at the Collingwood game we won- Henry would be the most important return as we lack that spark in the forward half of the ground. King is good for a couple of goals and Webster is solid and experienced. I get the feeling Clark may be cooked, just too many injuries and will need to break into...

Re: Team v Port
Sadly, in the decades I've been following the Saints, it has never been a rebuild, just topping up the list trying to get quick success. I remember when Lyon left, the club presumed the next coach could take that team to the finals, but Watters saw deficiencies with the list after the 2010 final and...

We don't need a group of senior GOPs who are not winning their positions, as an example for the young players though

Re: Our form
It's all nice to think we got close in losing, but we lost the games and that's all that counts. We played poor football for parts of those losses and even in our two wins- especially against a undermanned Richmond. We have yet to put together a good four quarter game.

Re: Lyon Press Conference Pre-R7 v Port
Lyon has been caught out quite a bit this season tactically, then had to rejig plans half way through games to catch up- not too confident with him this time around.

I guess when you look at some of our poor team statistics compared to the rest of the comp, the finger should be pointed straight at the senior coach

The Saints just better start winning more games- people like winners, not also-rans. When we started dominating games under GT, the crowds started back big-time.

Re: Who would you pick?
Pretty obvious now that our forward half is too slow, has practically no defensive system and can easily be run off. I would think about putting Steele in the forward half for a bit more hunger at the ball and opposition, and play Owen exclusively at FF.

Re: Phillipou Close to Signing
Phillipou will be elite. Bookmark it. RTB and crew are playing him in the midfield as part of his overall football "education". It's for his own good, even though he is struggling atm. He'll come good. If you doubt it, go back and look at his highlights from the first half of last year. W...

Jones did pretty well under Ratts when we made the finals, but injuries have interrupted his progress sadly. Some players play better under different coaches and that's always been the case.
